Elijah Pittman's Road To Recovery and the NBA Draft

Featured Replies

The last time you probably heard about Elijah Pittman was in the news for all the wrong reasons. The former Marshall standout was indicted on battery charges in August after an altercation with another Marshall student. Pittman did suit up 9 games for the Herd but then left for the D-League for "off-court issues pertaining to protecting himself and his family at his home caught up with him resulting in his suspension from the team during which he voluntary left the school to pursue his career in professional basketball." according to a release from his agent.

Pittman was quickly picked up by the Delaware 87ers where he averaged 10 points and 3.6 rebounds per game for the Philadelphia 76ers farm team.

Athleticism, skill and basketball in general was never his problem.

Well, handing out food and clothes to homeless folks always looks good on the surface. You have to live what you say, especially when it gets difficult. We've heard all this stuff before and most often than not they revert back to the same bad habits. I VERY MUCH hope the kid has it together and makes his dream come true, but he's got to do it for himself and not for all the yes-men or alleged "friends" who want to suck the life out of any success he has. Elijah, you have to make YOURSELF proud.

Sadly, I will believe it when I see it.

He was in Sacramento within the last week working out for the Kings.

Has been in Atlanta training all summer. Probably best for him. The more he is away from here and certain people....the better off he is.

And a little over a month later I'm posting that Pittman was invited to New York for the draft by the Kings (to be drafted with their first round pick) and two days before told not to show up because he failed his drug test.

Absolute shame.

This kid could be the best player to ever come out of NKY and the state of Kentucky in general and he just won't learn.

I heard today at the gym from someone very connected to the AAU circuit and many college coaching staffs around the country that Pittman was in Lexington this summer working out in open gyms against the Harrison twins and a few others on UK's roster and he was the best player on the court and it wasn't even close. Too big and strong for anyone who tried to check him.

Hopefully the kid will get his act straight before it's too late. He could make a lot more money playing in the actual league v the D-League.

Some people just can't be helped. I'm afraid he's sliding into this category

ZERO chance he was EVER going to be drafted in the first round.

Equal chance you were going in the 1st round...

While I agree with you because I doubt any team would draft him top 10 even if he didn't have issues, was simply posting what I was told......

He had an invite from Sacramento after working out for them against Stauskas and a few others.

I wish him luck. Hope he makes some $.

I really think he has NBA potential. I hope he gets it all turned around and takes the opportunity before his window passes.

I watched him multiple times at Marshall. I'm not sure the potential outweighs the potential for drama.

As I remember being said about another Covington standout--"Sometimes it's hard to get away from yourself"? Best of luck to Elijah--Hope he turns it around, but doubt the "Best ever to come from KY" proclamation above?? Darrell Griffith comes to mind??
