Today's game is sorely lacking in jumbo sized shoulder pads.

And from the looks of the picture, players in their mid-30s.

They were 2A in 19 86. They didn’t move down to 1a until 1991.

1921 Elizabethtown Panthers. Team finished the season at 9-1, with their sole loss coming at the hands of Male. With 7 shutout wins, including a win over St. X, only 6 touchdowns were scored on the Panthers all season...Male had 3 of them.

Old Kentucky Home football coaching staff, 1966 football season. This was the first year as a head coach for Joe Jaggers, patriarch of the Jaggers football coaching family.

Not much was expected of the the Wildcats that season, but they finished out 7-2-1, including a win over crosstown rival Bardstown.

Jaggers retired in late 1998 as the all-time coaching wins leader in Kentucky High School football, with a career record of 292-105-3, accrued at Old Kentucky Home, Nelson County, Trigg County, Fort Knox, and North Hardin. He was also 5-1 in state championship games.

Where did you find that?!? I've never even seen that one! :)

Also...."Holcomb" at the end? That's Coach Mike Holcomb's late father, Joe.  He was the basketball coach at OKH, and then Papa Joe would help him out.

Dad and Coach (Mike) Holcomb went 1st grade-6th grade together, then obviously joined the KHSFB coaching ranks about the same time. That's how long their (our) close friendship goes back.

The picture of the coaching staff was from the 1967 OKH yearbook. Then the other was a clipping from the Courier-Journal archive. A Newspapers.com subscription gets you digital access to all of the Gannett Media newspaper archives.

Here's his "school picture" from the yearbook that year. Looks like (I'm assuming) his wife Joy was the school secretary too.

Ashland at Covington Catholic
1991 AAA Quarterfinals
Cov Cath won 41-24, and lost the following week to Bell County.

di76193.jpg
#43 is Cov Cath running back Jude Hoffman.

#43 Jude Hoffman running with the handoff from #12 Adam McCormack, quarterback.

I can't tell if that's #12 Adam McCormack running with the ball, or #19 Matt Rabe.

@Tomcats1990 ...any ideas who the players for Ashland were in the post above?

#34 for Ashland looks like Ryan Blake. Played RB, DB in 85 86 87 something like that. He was on the Team that lost to  #1 Cov Cath at Putnam 6-0 in the playoffs in Overtime. #64 Joe Avila. Kid was a monster 6-6 6-7 280 went to Colorado to play OL. If that’s 91 have no clue.

It's definitely '91. Cov Cath didn't have the bands around the bottom of their sleeves until the 90s.

Do know my Dad was at that game.Chris Hutt got banged up in that game. He was taken to the hospital by paramedics and wasn’t hurt that bad. Could have returned into that game but missed the remainder of it.

I miss all those city schools like Harrodsburg and teams like that. There’s just something about playing for your local community. The crazy thing is they consolidate from city schools into one big county schools and then they break up in to North West etc. I wish if a big county school was going to break up in to smaller schools they would name the school after the local community instead of either North or South or whatever.

Unsure of the year.

Male Manual.jpg

That is the cover of the Thanksgiving Day Courier-Journal sports page from November 26, 1936. That was already the 53rd edition of The Old Rivalry. Manual ended up winning that year 27-0 in front of a crowd of 14,600 at Manual Stadium.

Here's the full page. If anyone can make heads or tails of the first 10 years worth of final scores, let me know...because I sure as hell can't figure it out.
