June 19, 201412 yr I'm done with this. If you guys think stealing 3rd with 1 out compared to 0 outs is the same thing you can't be serious. Those rules don't apply to elite SB guys. This isn't Todd Frazier were talking about.
June 19, 201412 yr It's a perfect scenario to explain my feeling on sabermetrics. I think some of the stats are important, really important. However, the things that cannot be gathered statistically is why I choose to rely on experience in addition to the statistics. There's no stat to show a batter may get more pitches left up in the zone due to focus on Hamilton than if he wasn't on base or as much of a base stealing threat. Those are results not measured by statistics. Similar adjustments made are defensive alignment, catching mechanics, pitching mechanics, pitch sequence and approaches to particular hitters. I don't disagree with what your saying. I'll also say I'm fairly confident that if I wanted to take the time (and energy) to figure it out, I could use statistics to prove why him having the green light in that situation is a better option than not.

Agreed. I'm sure there's something about BA with Hamilton on base or hot zones with Hamilton on base...etc. I'm still not sure it encompasses the pressure he puts on everyone. For instance, SSC's argument that an error should be considered in OBP because Hamilton speeds everything up in everyone's mind.

June 19, 201412 yr One comment on 3rd with no outs - different players get different rules. Some hitters should never get the green light to swing 3-0. Some hitters you might give the green light to swing 3-0 any time unless given the take. Hamilton should have the green light to go with no outs because the odds are in his favor. Every time he makes an out in that situation causes reconsideration of those odds. For now, keep the green light.

June 19, 201412 yr A buddy and I made a bet on Hamilton HR's before the season, as I claimed he showed signs of a little bit of pop in his bat when he gets one in the wheel house. Number was 3.5. I already won.
