The game was more of forced shots. How many times can you bring the ball up the floor and drive it to the hole and get denied.

 

Nick R played his role as I expected. He dished the ball around to the open man and took very few shots. Nice underhand layup, couple free throws and a three from the corner. There was no doubt he was out sized here keeping him out of the lane. Played nice..

Is Indiana still trying to drop this series, no competition after winning 13 in a row ?

First, Kentucky needs to get rid of the political system behind the selection of its players. Second, there is a reason why we can't beat Indiana - its called sharing the rock and playing defense. Third, get kids that will forever cherish wearing the KY banner and a coaching system that brings accountability and ownership on every possession. Oh my bad, this is a meaningless all-star game to many so lets continue with our poor showing as no one really cares..... I remember when this game meant something to the bluegrass! Sorry for the rant!

The right combination of kids could compete with and defeat Indiana, in my opinion. Good AAU programs like The Ville, The Travelers, and yes Hoop Dreams have similar setups where kids are thrown together but the difference is that those kids develop chemistry over time. With the current system, it is difficult to just throw kids together, practice a couple times and then go play. That's just my opinion and I'm not sure I have a solution to propose, but I just wanted to share.

As best as I can gather, invites go out. The kids come try out. They go through stations of drill work for about an hour or 90 minutes. They are then split up into predetermined teams and play 5 on 5 games.

 

While the players take an hour long lunch break, coaches on the selection committee meet and discuss the players.

 

When the players come back from lunch they play for another 2 hrs or so. Then tryouts end and the committee meets again to make selections.

 

Lastly, they have a couple of practice days where coaches determine who the "top 6" are. Those 6 play both games. The other 12 players are split into two groups of six each.*One group of 6 plays with the top 6 in Indy and the other 6 play with the top 6 in the Kentucky game.

You were at the Junior tryouts as I was. I left at lunch. In your opinion are those teams picked based on how they performed that day? I don't feel like that one day is enough time to piece together a team based on how they play that day. I feel like 8-10 players are already on the team regardless of that day. They just have to show up.

Well I think there were a couple of players who earned a spot in the top 18 that day but for the most part I would guess most kids were competing for about 6 actual open spots.
