U.S. Embassy in Israel flys lgbt flag under American flag

Our society has very real problems, no question. Hungry children, heroine addiction, huge chunks of our population living below the poverty line...and the one no one talks about, the over-population of our nation and the world. Yet you want to stick your flag in the ground over the rights of Gay & Lesbian organizations? Forgive me for not mailing a check today to the fine folks at Westboro Baptist.

How so?

I'd argue that the continued close-mindedness and bigotry shown by the religious right towards those that are different than they are, or that which they don't understand is much more culpable for the decay of our society than any other group.

By far.

Interesting. A man makes a point from a conservative standpoint. Another disagrees. And then, the name-calling begins.

Conservatives/Christians...as a group...are called closed-minded, bigots, and monomaniacs.

If liberals are all that open-minded, shouldn't they be willing to allow another point of view to be expressed?

Or is "open-mindedness" a one-way street?

Just to clear the air, I'm not even remotely in the vicinity of "liberal".

News to me. Didn't know liberals wanted to end welfare, end social security, get rid of "free (public schools)", and remove government intervention in healthcare. Who knew? :idunno:

O.K.; let me re-word that.

Fanatics within any faction are intolerable.

Honestly, is hyperbole the only way you are able to make a point? You are equating / blaming the support of Gay and Lesbian organizations to society's drug problems and school shootings?

Here is what I can tell you with great confidence, I'd much rather have a nice dinner with a group of Gay and Lesbian individuals than I would a group of Christian Right-wing monomaniacs. The level of closed-mindedness that is exhibited by that group is not only laced with bigotry, it is infuriating to a level I can only barely comprehend.

Thank you.

Yeah, because being more open-minded and accepting is such an awful thing.

We don't agree a whole lot (after all, I'm a liberal).

But we agree on this.

Eh, we probably agree more often than not on social issues.

At least you've gotten 1/2 the equation right. :D

Interesting choice of words.

Why should Christians have to or be forced to accept homosexuality? It goes against the teaching in the Bible which is what most go by for guidance. I will never hate the homosexual, just the sin I feel it is. It I my right to disagree with the gay flag being flown. Why not fly the Christian flag to show support for the many Christians being persecuted around the world.

^There's a Christian flag? Never heard of that before.

No one is asking you to accept it. It doesn't hurt anything to have the thing fly for a week though.

IMO, it's more a symbol of saying "America accepts people of all types, be they gay, straight, bi, religious, non-religious, etc"....You may say it doesn't represent you or your beliefs as an individual, and it may not, but it almost assuredly represents you as an American, and what it means to be American. Israel's population is something on the order of 2% Christian.

I don't know FOR SURE, but I would wager that a higher percentage that that are L, G, B or T.
