Kentucky Boys' All-Stars shorthanded

Featured Replies

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Kentucky Boys' All-Stars are getting ready to play Indiana Friday night with a short roster.

Coach Chris O'Hearn is without Mister Basketball, Quentin Snyder out of Ballard. Snyder has commitments with UofL, he will join the team tomorrow. Henry Clay's Jordan Green and Perry Central's Justin Johnson are in summer school at WKU. For O'hern its been tough to deal with.

"It's been very frustrating." said O'Hearn. "It's been a challenge and certainly something we are just trying to overcome and we have had some with local high school guys that have stepped in and given us a couple of bodies. But they have their high school schedules they have to attend to as well."

O'Hearn has also had two players leave the squad, Chris McGraw and Trey Edwards. " It's hard to get much up and down action when you've only got seven guys in practice and y'know conditioning such a big part of the game. If you're not in good shape, you're not going to shoot the ball very well. The first thing to go is your legs and if you don't have your legs you're not going to shoot it well. We're just going to keep working hard and trying to get better and the scrimmages will hopefully help us a lot with that this week."

Can the guys already enrolled in school (college) play?

Was probably going to be tough for KY to get a win in this series as it was, but without those guys it will be even tougher.

Why not invite other kids that were at the tryouts. This is becoming a joke. There are a number of good players that tried out and were not selected.

Isn't everyone going to be there except for the 2 that left the team? Not saying they will win a game in the series I just took it that they were missing practice. Seems like I remember Vinny Zollo having summer school at WKU and that he missed practice time as well.

Brent Bach would be happy to help. I guarantee he'll be at every practice and game.

O'Hearn is still having nightmares about Brent. We all know why Brent wasn't chosen.

You're right. Q and those guys will be there. Just couldn't make practice because of already enrolling in college.

Indiana juniors sweep Kentucky

Sunrise, thank you. As an old fart I'm new to this whole blogging and all; but you said it best when you said, "It's hard to get much up and down action when you've only got seven guys in practice."

It's funny because now that were talking about the "Senior" AllStars-people who previously posted negative comments bashing Jr. players for "skipping out" are finally opening their eyes to the facts! I'm speaking in particualry for the the JCPS boys who made the Jr. AllStar team...only for the KY Selection committee to put in place an intenary for the Jr. Allstars to have practice during the day, the very same week that JCPS where having school finals. Private Schools and a lot of county schools where already on summer break :wideyed:. But hey I'm 67 years young, a JCPS Administrative retiree that just happen to follow High School basketball. Maybe I'm the only one that noticed.

Same thing happened with Derek Willis and Dominique Hawkins last year, as I recall. Makes it tough to create any team chemistry when you can't practice together.

Again, the only kids who were criticized for skipping out on the Junior All Stars were from Knott County Central and their official public reason for skipping out was for 'personal reasons'. Not one person on here has criticized anyone else besides those two for skipping out on the Junior All Stars. I understand you are new to BGP but these are the 'facts' on the issue. Nobody has said a word about anyone from JCPS except for you.

And those aren't Gold Sunrise's words. That is the KY coach talking. Goldie posted part of the story from the link.

Kind of. Most of this team has played together in AAU.

Thanks Purple for clarifying; and you're right I am the only one speaking up for the JCPS boys; so why knock me down for speaking out about it?

I can tell that you're a veteran to all this can you possibly tell me in your own opinion why you think they would select those boys only to turn around and pull a stunt like they did?

Do you think it was right?

I had wondered if the jr players from KCC didn't participate because they were in school too.

I'm not knocking you down for speaking about it. I just don't know what you are talking about in regards to the JCPS kids. Who are you speaking about and what happened to them?

I'll post you a link to the thread where we discussed the All Star selection.
