June 2, 201412 yr Seems like the most popular "bargains" (under $3) are Rose at $1 and Robinson and Brett at $2 I personally found Ozzie Smith at $1 to be an incredible bargain. He may not have been the greatest hitter that ever was, but I know I'd never worry about his fielding. I'm not sure there's ever been a better fielder at the position.
June 2, 201412 yr How does this list not include Koufax on the list of pitchers? Nolan Ryan? Not only that, but they've got Stan Musial at first base. I realize that he played there, but he spent much more time in the outfield.
June 2, 201412 yr C - Johnny Bench ($5) 1B - Stan Musial ($5) 2B - Bobby Grich ($2) 3B - George Brett ($2) SS - Ozzie Smith ($1) LF - Ted Williams ($4) CF - Ty Cobb ($4) RF - Frank Robinson ($2) DH - David Ortiz ($2) RHP - Tom Seaver ($3) LHP - Steve Carlton ($3) RP - Goose Gossage ($3) I really like these threads. My lineup card BTW: 1 - Ty Cobb 2 - Stan Musial 3 - Ted Williams 4 - Frank Robinson 5 - David Ortiz 6 - George Brett 7 - Johnny Bench 8 - Bobby Grich 9 - Ozzie Smith Lead off with the all-time leader in batting average, #3 hitter leads in OBP, sandwiched around Stan the Man, with #9 in all-time HRs batting cleanup.
June 2, 201412 yr C - Ivan Rodriguez - $3 1B - Rod Carew - $3 2B - Bobby Grich - $2 3B - George Brett - $2 SS - Ozzie Smith - $1 RF - Hank Aaron - $4 CF - Ty Cobb - $4 LF - Ted Williams - $4 DH - Harold Baines - $1 RHP - Greg Maddux - $2 LHP - Lefty Grove - $5 RP - Mariano Rivera - $5 Line Up: 1 - Ty Cobb - CF 2 - Ted Williams - LF 3 - Rod Carew - 1B 4 - Hank Aaron - RF 5 - George Brett - 3B 6 - Harold Baines - DH 7 - Ivan Rodriguez - C 8 - Bobby Grich - 2B 9 - Ozzie Smith - SS Emphasis on hitting for average, with speed and power mixed in. Defensively, tough up the middle. Pudge is a great defensive catcher with a really live arm, Ozzie & Grich could turn a ton of double plays, and you've got Cobb's speed in center to cover lots of ground.
June 2, 201412 yr Defense and Pitching: C-Ivan Rodriguez $5 1B-Albert Pujols $4 2B-Bobby Grich $4 3B-Mike Schmidt $1 SS-Ozzie Smith $1 LF-Carl Yastrzemski $2 CF-Willie Mays $5 RF-Ichiro Suzuki $1 DH-Harold Baines $1 RHP-Greg Maddux $2 LHP-Lefty Grove $5 RP-Mariano Rivera $5
June 2, 201412 yr How does this list not include Koufax on the list of pitchers? Nolan Ryan? It looks like instead of the top 5 players at each position they gave options more based on tiers. I kind of like that because I think it made it more of a challenge. Not only that, but they've got Stan Musial at first base. I realize that he played there, but he spent much more time in the outfield. I think Gehrig would have been the best choice for the $5 1B

June 3, 201412 yr Closer was another weird category of choices. Obviously Rivera at the top is a no-brainer. But, Wilhelm at #2? And Hiller at #4? I'd have rather seen Eckersley or Lee Smith at #2, and someone like John Franco at #4, or move Nathan up to #4 and put Kent Tekulve or Dan Quisenberry at #5.

Is Joe Nathan really on the top tier of closers all time?
June 3, 201412 yr Is Joe Nathan really on the top tier of closers all time? Haven't you heard? All closers are pretty much the same. Anybody can do it. :lol2:
