People who are noting the 20 year age do need to remember that the stadium was converted from Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Stadium from the 1996 games. It was built in such a way that it could be converted, but it is not as if Atlanta had a stadium built just for them and a HUGE chunk of the cost of the stadium was paid for by private sponsors. As in probably more than 75% of it. Essentially this is the first time in 50 years that the taxpayers will really be on the hook for a stadium.

 

Now that's not a commentary on what the Braves did here as far as suppressing opposition. That was quite underhanded. I'm just saying that it's not as bad as it sounds on the timeframe of things. In this era nearly 50 years without the taxpayers be responsible for building a stadium is more than fair.

Baseball gets in the way of football down there and everywhere in the south. Most "Braves fans" either latched on because of TBS (my grandfather was like this, much to my chagrin), or they jumped on the '90s success bandwagon.

I don't think many people would argue that. Most people don't think the Braves are supported greatly by Atlanta. It's been pretty evident for years.

Having been to a Braves game I welcome the move to new surroundings. I was worried about my car when we parked......at a day game.

That is some, but it has more to do with what the organization and Turner did for the city itself, then the city not coming through on their end.

 

 

How bad the Braves organization was treated has largely been swept under the rug.
