Thus my statement above, if they all stick around. There will be no juniors on the JV team next year and you can write that down and circle it.

If your a junior and can't contribute to the varsity then it is beter for your program to cut bait and move to younger talent. JMO

I was going to say the same thing. Rare circumstances where I think a junior stays on the varsity roster and plays some JV.

So how do you handle this? Say you have 15 juniors playing varsity(all contributors) These guys will be varsity seniors next year. Say your JV is 15 deep of sophomores. All of a sudden you implement the rule that juniors cant play JV and all of a sudden you cut 12 or the juniors to be. Then here you go with your numbers in the tank again. I guess its cyclical to a point. Bottom line is the best will play regardless of grade.

If that's the case then its a shame. With thirteen returning juniors there will be only a half dozen spots on the varsity. If the remaining sophomores choose to quit because the program has grown to the point where the Birds have great depth, so be it. You are not entitled to play varsity just because of your grade. The kids that are playing for the love of the game and the honor of representing the school will stick it out until it is their time.

This is not a situation where next years juniors could not contribute if needed, they are just behind a very deep senior class in 2015.

So are you stating that the current sophomore group, of which there are at least 10, that are placed on the JV squad for next year ( due to only about 6 spots open on the varsity roster) will quit or will be cut by the program??

So do the thirteen returning players automatically get a spot because they are entitled or do the best play regardless of class? Define great depth? Is that numbers or is that quality baseball players? Who said anything about Sophomores quitting? Big assumption being made there don't you think?

Perhaps this all needs to be discussed in another thread because it is doing nothing but taking away from the accomplishments that this "team" achieved. Great run in the tourney on four very well pitched games and some timely hitting. Defense was also spectacular as I cannot remember very many errors in those four games.

If needed, really? Who says they are behind anything but a grade? This class is as deep or deeper than the 2015 class and if they would all play, they would be even deeper.

Who is saying any are going to be placed on the JV? And yes, they will either cut themselves or be cut. If your program has numbers as has been pointed out on here, why would you have Juniors take playing time away from upcoming Sophs and Frosh?

Well let me see..... oh yea this years rosters say so as determined by Coach Baioni.

The juniors are contributors to a district champion, 18 win varsity squad that played a very tough schedule.

The sophomores did a great job winning the JV tourney. Not the same.

Only if they all stick around.

Agree with the bolded, but also see how the discussion veered off course.

I will tell you this there are some sophmores that are more talented than some of the juniors and seniors that played varsity this year. These sophmores didn't play varsity more because of their grade and not their talent. In my opnion next year HHS will be right behind Beechwood as the best team in the 9th region. Mark it down!!

There have been several posts on this subject and again, it goes back to the whole purpose of an extra-curricular team! IMO, if a senior wants to play JV, he should be allowed!

As an example, when my son was a junior, there were 14 or 15 seniors on his team. Needless to say, that since his coach did not allow juniors on JV, a lot of the juniors vanquished on the bench. The following year, 2 of the 5 seniors were unceremoniously shown the door in favor of 2 sophomores, that were able to play full-time the previous year. In my opinion, had the 2 seniors been able to play JV the year prior, they would have had more than a fighting chance to get the nod over the younger players.

Congrats to the Birds! So nice to see the program trending up as it sounds like the players and coaches have really had challenges to overcome.

If only the basketball program could have these problems. Hopefully they will in the future.
