I said nothing about history. Christians are being slaughtered by Muslims around the world today and I don't think that most of the killings involve a revenge motive dating to the Crusades. Do you?

 

As for religious intolerance, it is my opinion that people who refer to Evangelical Christians as the "American Taliban" are religiously intolerant. If you disagree, then that is your right as an American. Nobody is going to flog you for doing so in this country.

As to revenge motives dating to the Crusades, probably more recent but history is a funny thing. It's like watching the old Soviet Union Break up and countries like Yugoslavia erupt in devastating genocide based on 100's of year old ethnic conflicts. Oh, and BTW, the Albanian muslims might be willing to compare notes to the Christians from Bosnia and Kosovo.

 

I don't see the Evangelical Community as a Taliban but they aren't the bastion of Religious Liberty among some of them either, IMO.

 

As for the flogging, I would say the word: "Yet." My Baptist forebearers were flogged and imprisoned for their faith right here in Virginia.

I would like to think your right but if we give into no taco parties, no camels, etc, the we will cave to letting Muslims be ruled by Sharia since it's insensitive not to.

My point was that you and others don't think this a big deal. I didn't say anything about invading the country or putting boots on the ground. This is not a Terrorist doing this, it is a Nation State doing it...my question would be where is the pressure from the US, sanctions or political inroads to stop such behavior.

 

It is sad that some of you think the Michael Sam story is more note worthy than any person losing their life...I guess that's the Pop Culture World many live in. Good Thing Kim and Kanye aren't getting married this week, that would really stop the world spinning for a lot of you.

They can have all the movement they want, but the bottom line is there's no chance in hell of it actually being implemented here. In a country where people have grown up with great freedoms, the chance of us giving up those freedoms to institute some religious theocracy is about as good as me hitting the lottery 10 times. Can't put toothpaste back into a tube.

None of the above has any relevance to the subject of this thread. I stand by my assertion that those who respond to Islamist terrorist attacks by drawing moral equivalence between peaceful Christian sects and radical Islamists are displaying religious intolerance against Christians. There is no excuse for it.

And you're missing my second point as well vis-a-vis what constitutes newsworthiness. People die in Islamic countries all the time over religious oppression. So much so, that the public at large is desensitized to it (or they just don't care). If it didn't happen all the time, it would be newsworthy. But it's par for the course in the Islamic world.

 

There can only be one first gay person in the NFL. That's why it's a big deal from the standpoint of the national news media. This story sells subscriptions. Nobody's beating down the door of their local paper to find out what the latest atrocity in the Islamic world is, and news organizations have reacted accordingly, from a P&L standpoint.

I understand and agree with what your saying here...except I don't think people are beating the doors down to read about Michael Sam, as you would say...It's being crammed down our throats!
