This is HUGE for Berea. Can't wait to see how it plays out over the next 3-5 years.

Berea should be contenders in a lot of sports. D3 competition isn't nearly as good as most NAIA schools.

They have an endowment fund that picks up the tab.

Incredible value.

Your family has to be under a certain income. If any of the years you are there your family is above that income, it may cause a problem.

This is not the case- they will do a thorough review prior to admitting a student, but if your family won the lottery while you were enrolled it is not the policy of the college to remove a student or pull a student's scholarship. I worked for Berea College for a short time and unless there has been a dramatic shift, this isn't the case.

I know a kid who was being recruited for baseball. His family was told, as long as they stay under a certain income they would be fine. Each year they would have had to turn in their tax information to verify income. I could be wrong but this is the way I understood it.

Wait... You can go to Berea for FREE??

Berea is also a work study college, so students perform many of the tasks that colleges pay employees to perform (janitors, administrative assistants, desk clerks, food service workers, etc.). Students are paid a wage well below minimum wage in exchange for their service to the college (this helps to off set some costs of education). The college saves on benefits and salary for many of the lower level labor positions using students in this fashion.

It is a GREAT deal for students!

I didn't know about the work study program, Alice Lloyd does that too. :thumb:

Cumberlands did this when I went there. That's how I paid for part of my tuition. Pizza Hut paid the rest. :D

Let me research this. I'll get an answer for both of us.

That sounds like an extremely sweet deal. How are they not busting at the seams with students?

I think they are pretty selective and do know they attempt to fill each incoming class with kids from different socio-economic backgrounds and cultures.

So if a child wants to go to Berea and comes from a family of means, are they not admitted? That is interesting -- I had no idea Berea was set-up that way. Is Brescia the same way?

If you come from a family of means, you will not be admitted. As an alum and college grad i have done okay for myself. I would love to have my 3 children attend College back at Berea. However, they have no chance of getting into school there.
