The topic was under-rated players, and in my opinion, if a kid is barely looked at as top 5 in the State but should really be ranked Nationally. That kid is severely under-rated... I would have to agree with your comments about the Weyer kid. I've seen him play a few times over the years and he has come a long way. There is a lot of upside to this kid and I think we will continue to see good things from him in the future. His move to the Travelers this summer will end up being very good for him developmentally.

IMO he is better then guys like Tyus Battle who is ranked 11th in the Country... Only reason he not in the Top 50 or Top 25 is because Nationally people still don't really know who he is... I am sure that will change in the near future. Once he gets an opportunity to play these Top 25 kids regularly, he will be able to prove that. I think he is a young version of D'angelo Russell with more bounce and a higher ceiling.

Agree 100% and when he walks off the court he's one of the nicest young men you will ever meet. Sky is the limit for him.

Not to beat the Hoop Dreams drum too hard, but Trey Moses is a player who has really come into his own lately. He has picked up his first division 1 offer this week and has had a ton of interest since we returned from Pittsburgh.

 

Beat that drum, coach! Those are your guys. Have to promote them. And, they will promote themselves by their play.

One of the most overlooked players in my opinion is Ethan Snapp who plays for the 16u Hoop Dreams and at Newport High School, this kid is a lights out shooter that regularly is putting 20+ points on the board and can pull up a jumper from anywhere at anytime, I used to watch him a lot with the NKY Celtics team that was loaded with talent and he has just continued getting better and better every time i've seen him play, both 16u Hoop Dreams game's I watched over the weekend he was lights out shooting the ball and his defense has come a long long way since his Celtics day's. I am not saying he is better than some of the kids that are being talked about as being the "top 5" in the state but he without a doubt deserve to be included in the conversations.

How are these guys underrated? We've been hearing about them for atleast 6 months now and many people on here have agreed that each of them are VERY nice players. Don't a couple, or all of them have some significant interest from D2/D1 colleges? Also, Hagen Tyler has a couple D1 offers, correct? Carson was a leading scorer in the state last year, if people are "overlooking" him, they just simply aren't watching.

 

Who cares what "on-lookers" or "fans" around the state THINK... if you have significant interest, or offers, you are NOT underrated/overlooked. Just my opinion.

Yes. Austin Schreck. Plays at Dixie Heights, and for the last 2 years behind a really good one in Brandon Hatton. This kid can do it all. He rebounds, handles the ball well, finds open teammates with nice passes, plays good defense, and can score the basketball in multiple ways. He uses his body very well at the rim and has a high IQ. He is also calm on the floor, very VERY rarely, if ever, gets rattled by the moment, or situation. He is also becoming a more vocal leader. Not to mention, this young man is an ace in the classroom.

 

I would also add Matt Mullins of Simon Kenton. Completely overlooked because he is only 6'3 or 6'4. This young man is a rebound hound! He consistently matches up with guys that are 3,4, or 5 inches taller than him, and he very rarely gets shown up, if at all. Very fundamental, scores around the basket well, is money from 12-15 feet, and refuses to be outworked. Also, a really strong kid and very smart about the game, and in general. Ended the season with SK very well. He is currently working on his ball handling, perimeter defense, and stretching his game out to the 3pt line.

I could go on and on.... there are a ton of underrated players, especially in Northern Ky. Brenden Stanley is really nice as well. High IQ, great attitude, scores extremely well, very feisty defender, will rebound the ball, and can play 3 positions. Also, an academic athlete.

I thought he played with the Royals? Does he play with multiple teams?

Played one week end with them and absolutely filled it up..his main team is Hoop Dreams. I assume he was simply with them that week end because Hoop Dreams wasn't playing. Kid is a gym rat and will play anytime he gets the opportunity.

 

Mark it down...by the time his senior season rolls around, he will be regarded as one of the best scorers in the state. He is going to be a problem for teams this season.
