April 30, 201412 yr How could the government force someone to hire them? Let alone give them a better job than they had prior to going to jail. I suppose you could always offer them a government job in the prosecutor's office...
April 30, 201412 yr So if the government completely ruined your life with false accusations and charges, you wouldn't expect to be made whole? Yes, I have no problem with paying them, college, housing or whatever...just asking how a company could be forced to hire them.
April 30, 201412 yr Yes, I have no problem with paying them, college, housing or whatever...just asking how a company could be forced to hire them. A lot of companies won't touch anyone with a record. If you were in prison for, say 10 years, do you really think there'd be much interest in hiring that person? The least the government could do is help find them a job.

What Jumper Dad is saying is he is fine with the government HELPING the wrongly accused find a job but that does not mean a company will ever offer him/her a job since they cannot force anyone to hire that person.

April 30, 201412 yr A VERY, VERY Public "MY BAD, HE DIDN'T DO IT," would also be necessary. Additionally, the Governor should pen a letter to be attached to the exhonerated prisoner's application explaining everything.
April 30, 201412 yr Author How could the government force someone to hire them? Let alone give them a better job than they had prior to going to jail. I don't think a company should be forced to hire them, but I do think they could assist them in finding a job. When you get a government reference, as a company, you will probably hire the person.

April 30, 201412 yr I have no idea how common it is but if it's really common, how much would people accept in tax increases to cover these costs? In most cases it would be the state but I guess it could be county taxes also?

In most cases it would be the state but I guess it could be county taxes also? It would be on the state as they are the ones prosecuting the case, not the county.

July 29, 201412 yr How much do you think this guy deserves? Kenneth Ireland was wrongly convicted of rape and murder at age 18 and sent to prison, where he was repeatedly attacked by inmates for being a sex offender and even lost part of a finger in one of the attacks. 21 years later he was proven innocent by DNA evidence and the Connecticut Innocence Project. He's seeking between $5.4 million and $8 million for wrongful imprisonment. Another man was linked to the crime and (after Ireland's exoneration) and was sentenced to 60 years for the rape and murder. Connecticut Man Cleared In Killing Seeks Compensation

Connecticut Man Cleared In Killing Seeks Compensation There is not a number that is high enough to make up for what was done to him. It would be my life's goal to make everyone involved in sending me away miserable for the rest of their lives.
