This could end up really having an effect on college ball if D-League expands like this

For better or for worse in your opinion?

They should get rid of the "Development League" moniker and created a league that is essentially independent but on a second tier.

I'd want one of those to come to Louisville and I'd watch the heck out of it.

You'd have a lot of good teams and games in the D-League if this happened.

Basically a match for what the baseball rules are and what baseball people have. Go to the D-league or NBA straight out of school or have to stay 3 years.

I like the idea personally... Do you make it to where you can be called up at any time to the NBA?

Give and take. Farm system teams are way less interesting to fans, but it's easier for the parent organization to do what they want with players.

I like the idea of a salary-capped league where team executives can sign players to contracts. An NBA team can buy out those contracts, but can't just call players up. It gives the fans of lower-league cities a sense of ownership over the team that they don't get with things like minor league baseball. It's why I can enjoy going to Louisville Bats games a few times a year but I'll never be a fan of the Bats.

This would kind of suck if it happened IMO. You know it'd take away some real good players from the college game and I could give a crap less about the NBDL personally... But if it is the TRUE best interest of young players then I will support whatever.

I can see this affecting college basketball dramatically, much like minor league baseball affects the college game.

The MLB has a program where a player can obtain a college degree paid for by the league, after the player's playing days are over. I think a player only has to play in one game at the Major League level. Then they have a 2 year window to apply for college, should they get sent back down or released. Should the NBA adopt that type of proviso, college basketball will get greatly watered down, IMO.

If I'm reading this right, it sounds like it would really hurt college basketball. Essentially the top players coming out of high school would go play in the D-League for 3 years, so College would lose out on even more of the top kids.

Big-time college athletics has been and continues to be a ludicrous concept. Makes no sense why so much money is tied into people playing amateur sports. Let them play and get paid.

Go over to the threads about education, most people tend to agree that we're over-educating our population by sending people to college that really don't need it. Let's start the process of trimming down these universities with these guys.

College Basketball will be fine. It was fine when you could declare for the draft out of high school. You may miss out on some highlight reel players, but if all you want to see out of a college basketball game is a human highlight reel, you should probably just watch the NBA.

I agree to a certain extent, but if reasonable salaries are offered in the D-League, I think college ball will miss out on even the second tier talent. More kids will opt for pro than before the age limit was initially set.

A salary cap league that stands alone is what Adam Silver mentioned. Then it would be on the job training for front office executives and talent scouts as well.
