I think he had an offer from Marshall also. Tennessee Tech wanted him badly. I don't know...I'm probably just bitter because I'm still paying $240 a month in student loans. To me, it just makes more sense to take the free money.

Without knowing his financial situation it's hard to say. UL is telling him he can potentially earn one his second season. Didn't Justice go without a scholly?

Yeah, he started as a walk-on too. It comes down to several factors really...can his family afford it? Would he rather play 30 minutes a night in the OVC or watch 40 minutes a night in the ACC? Everyone is different. I wish him the best.

Who is to say his education won't be paid for his freshman year anyways? Between grants, financial aid and the plethora of local scholarships available...not to mention his grades...who knows how much he'll have to pay in year one.

Could be. I've just always had the debate with myself...enjoy the ride at UK/UL or play basketball at Morehead/EKU? It would be a very difficult decision. I hope Trent does well with the Cards.

If the kid's got it in his head that he'd like to be a coach one day, there aren't many people around to learn more about the game from than Rick Pitino. Any notion if that's something he's looking at down the road?

I understand that debate. For some it works out like it did for Jarrod Polson turning down Liberty and others it doesn't like Elisha Justice at UL. Depends on what the kid wants.

Agreed I can't imagine there are many kids in state of KY who wouldn't want polsons career and experiences.

It's also much easier to go from Louisville to some of the schools that are offering him scholarships if he decides it isn't a good fit than it would be to take the scholarship from a smaller school then get to Louisville.

The thing about Pitino is that the guys who he gives those spots to really do have a chance to earn clock. The kid from CAL and the kid before him that played at Frankfort High both had some opportunities. He doesn't use them just for practice dummies that the walk-ons at UK.

 

I'm glad to hear that Trent has another option.

That's true about UK. Their walk-on's, with the exception of the player that's on the track team, look like guys one wouldn't even choose for their team on a playground pickup game.
