WHY Do You Follow The Teams You Follow?

Featured Replies

Kentucky: Dad liked them. I wanted to be like dad. I liked them.

Boston Celtics: Became a fan when Pitino became their coach and it was basically UK v2.0... Guess I was too young to feel slighted.

Seattle Seahawks: I've always been drawn to the city of Seattle, for whatever reason. The music may be the biggest draw. I can't really pinpoint exactly what made me a fan, but it's real.

That's the only teams I follow with any real passion.

High School - Holmes, I live in Covington and root for the home team and another reason I just can't share on here, but the few that know me know why. Scott, Franklin Co., Western Hills, Trimble Co., Dayton all districts or schools I worked in and Southern HS, my alma mater.

College - I grew up in Louisville but never really had an allegiance to any Kentucky colleges, I have no clue why. UC is my favorite, but not a fanatic, I really liked Hugs. Morehead, my alma mater, but they are not in the hunt in anything often. But if they are in the tourney, I am big time pulling for them. Uk is ok and I root for them most of the time. I don't like Louisville because my dad is a die hard and he and I only like the Reds in common. I always rooted against who he was rooting for.

NFL - Bengals, since I got season tix in 1980, The only team at any level that I die a thousand deaths. My whole man cave is Bengals themed. I have thousands invested in everything from autographed pics and football gear. No other team in any sport is even close. Growing up I was a huge Vikings fan.

MLB - Reds because they are local to me now. I do pull for them and do cuss some when they are on the tube.

NBA - No favorite team. The only sport where I think the athletes are way too good for the rules they play now. It is just too easy for too many. I'd love the goal to be raised and the floor bigger. I do appreciate how good they are, it just bores me.

NHL - Blue Jackets because they are close and I love the NHL.

Baltimore Orioles - the local team from the time I could walk. Plus, Brooks Robinson came to the neighborhood once and gave me a signed baseball.

Baltimore Colts - until they fled the city under cover of darkness. Never will root for the Colts organization while there's an Irsay in the front office, and never could get behind the Ravens.

Georgetown College - daughter graduated from there; I got to know several of the football and basketball players fairly well.

Mason County Royals - both children graduated from there - one was valedictorian and the other was close. Wife still works in the system.

Wife - DIE-HARD Reds, Bengals, Celtics, UK and Mason County fan. Even when they do wrong, they can do no wrong.

High school: Magoffin County (I'm a Hornet); Danville and Boyle County (I live here); Rowan County (I used to live there)

College; Morehead State (my favorite team always); Kentucky (that's how I grew up); Michigan football (just because)

Pro: San Francisco 49ers; Boston Red Sox; Boston Bruins

Other: Barcelona, Manchester United, Los Angeles Galaxy

Professional:

Baseball - Grew up a Reds fan, became a Brewer Fan living in Milwaukee, and was at the very first Tampa Bay Rays game ever played.

Hockey - The Lightning. Again, I was at the first game ever played by the Bolts.

Football - I grew up with the Bengals, became a Packer fan when I lived in Milwaukee, and I adopted the Buccaneers when I moved to the Tampa Bay area. I've always been a sucker for the underdog and the Bucs were definitely that, back then. It's 30 + years of heartache and triumph.

College:

I am an alumnus of The University of the Cumberlands, Morehead State University, the University of Kentucky, Marquette University, and the University of South Florida. I donate to Morehead and UK.

I'm heavily involved with USF athletics, donor, volunteer, and season ticket holder to most every sport. I'm a member of the Bulls Club and the Presidents Club and an officer in the Bull Backers Club. We attend many away games, the most being in 2010 when we attended all of the football games that season, home and away.

Atlanta Braves - my first MLB game and my mom is from there.
