Good win for Ashland, but in the post season if you don't hit your free throws you generally lose. Ashland missed 19 FTs tonight, with most misses coming in the 4th qtr

 

Good point. Ashland shot around 54% tonight. That won't get it done on Thursday.

Congratulations to the TOMCATS!!!! As I said after the Pikeville game watch out because you may get scratched!!!! 7 in a row!!! I'm really happy for Drew and the boys good luck in Morehead!

Its also good to see that the Tomcats can pull out a victory even when McDavid doesn't have his usual game of 17 and 8. Thomas and Wilcox stepped up big tonight.

Can anyone tell me what Rose Hill did to limit McDavid? That is something no one else has done all year. Very impressive.

Congrats to Rose Hill on a fine season. Coach Fraley has the program definetly on the rise. If this group remains intact, look for even better things to come. It is going to be a fun 16th region tournament.

A win is a win. It was nice to see the rest of the team step up when Drew was in foul trouble. Thomas and Wilcox each had 17 tonight. Rose Hill made 8 consecutive trips to the free throw line in the 4th quarter to get back in the game. There were some pretty questionable calls if you ask me, but it didnt matter. The better team won tonight, Im glad to be moving onto Morehead and the finals on Friday!

McDavid and Euton played each other very physical tonight and the refs let them play that way for 3 qtrs, then changed the way they called the game in the 4th. Euton didn't really play that well until the 4th qtr, then he actually looked like he wanted the ball. All you can say about McDavid is that he just had one of those nights on offense, but he still contributed on def and on the boards.

Can anyone tell me what Rose Hill did to limit McDavid? That is something no one else has done all year. Very impressive.

The kept the inside packed in pretty tight. Early on it seemed like we knew that it would be hard to get the ball inside so the game plan changed. Matt was able to hit some mid range jumpers and we were able to get some players behind RH's D for some easy buckets, we also had some layups in transition. RH is just to young right now.

You are correct, some of the calls were very questionable. I was sitting right behind the basket on RH end and couldn't believe some of the calls the officials were making. But Ash didn't help themselves with their poor free throw shooting either. This game shouldn't have even been close.

I would have to say that McDavid, no matter how many points he scores, is going to contribute every night for you. He will go to war defensively and rebound, as well. Euton is going to be a heck of a player. He is already pretty good.

Kinglion you are very right about letting them play through 3 quarters then changing the way the game was being called. Even I picked up 3 fouls in the 4th, and my dad got 2. :lol:

You are correct. But you've gotta hit your free throws, no excuses. It reminded me of the classic ASH/RH triple overtime district final a few years ago when Ashland couldnt throw it in the ocean from the foul line but was still able to win.

Brandon Williams gave Ashland a big lift with his play tonight also. He slipped in behind RH zone defense for several key baskets and battled hard on the boards all night long. And of course, Adam Cannoy was his usual all over the floor hustling self.

Once they get to regionals, they will have to shoot free throws better, or they will be sent home packing. Those are easy points that they have to take advantage of because from here on out, the teams they play are going to be better competition.

I have noticed by watching a couple district games in the 63rd and almost all the teams are missing crucial freethrows. These seems to be an epidemic.
