A lot of the theme here is Jones gets the most out of the least talent. The Cats do have talent this year, but they are young. But Jones also wins when he is loaded.

Case in point is 1999. Gallatin was 29-3 with one regular season loss, an upset by arch rival Carroll Co.

Their 29 victories were by an average of 18 points! Think about that. Only 3 wins were by single digits. Before district play Gallatin trailed in the second half TWICE, their 2 losses.

In 98 and 99 they swept Shelby, Anderson, Oldham, and South Oldham. No other Class A school has that on their resume.

Bottom line is, Jones can coach, no matter how much he complains to the officials (which isn't any more than any other coach). Besides, when did that become a criteria for postseason awards?

Jones is a crybaby enough said. If anybody should get the award it should go to the Eminence coach last year he had the first winning season in 16 yrs and this year they are 14-13 and making it to the finals of the 8th region class a. They almost beat shelby they were only down by 6 at half in the first meeting. But Congrats to GC and Jones for last night win. The fouls were like always Gallatin hardly gets a foul called but cant complain the YOUNG BOYS from GC didn't foul alot.

Coach Bkackburn did a great job at Eminence this season, but Gallatin would lost only 3 games with that schedule. Shelby, Anderson, and possibly Spencer.

Sounds like someone is not happy over the fact that thier team flopped after being preseason #2 in the 8th region. We all know that those predictions were way off base from the start, which is not the players or coach's fault. With that being said , i believe that if Coach Jones were coach at Carroll County, the Panthers would not have underachieved all season. Keep in mind that on paper CC has more talent than GC. After all, CC did place two players on All Region Team( Mcmahan and Miller), GC placed one ( Davis). CC player rotation included mostly seniors while Coach Jones played nine players:1 senior, 3 juniors, 3 sophs, and 2 freshman.

Yes the 8th region overall is down, it is Shelby's to lose. Regardless of what happens in the 31st District or 8th Region tournament, we are all playing for second anyway.

 

I don't have dog in the fight. I'm a transplanted Carroll Countian but have seen enough games around here over the past ten or so years to reach the opinion that Jones is the biggest crybaby in this region (especially since Scott Co. is no longer here). I don't play down his ability to coach but his little tantrums on the side lines to manipulate the officiating is sickening to watch sometimes. All coaches go off from time to time but he does it regularly and I don't like it.

gotta crawl before you walk. He's trying to get the confidence up and losing by shelby less than Carroll did is a good sign but carroll is much improved since that game against shelby but i'll take SK to win it all.

Super B do you come to the games to watch the coaches or the players? So he cries a little----your a fan of CC that had the biggest cry baby coach in the world last year.

Nothing against John Jones at Gallatin...but, Mike Clark at Shelby Co. did a great job..ranked all year, hard place to coach!

 

It is hard to coach at a big school like that, you have to cut average players and work with players over 6'1", I dont see how they do it, then you have good players transfering in most years to have a chance to win a state championship, and more imporantly get noticed by college coachs. It is much easier at little schools were you have to coach who ever shows up and work on developing them into players.

They have more of a chance than the school you went to! Unless of course you went SC! I'd would have rather stayed in the 9th where you have more than 2 or 3 teams that actually can play. I'm glad they still play the better competition up here, than to play all same region teams and have only a few losses and think you have a squad. SK has been very inconsistant all year and probably won't make it out this year,but please refer to my first scentence on this post!

SK will have their hands full for years to come in the 8th region. Didn't they play Oldham Co. this season ? Oh yeah Oldham won that game. Oldham just finished runner-up in their district, assuming SK beats Grant tomorrow , SK could possibly play Oldham in first round of region tournament. If you think that SK will have a field day in the 8th , this year or any year , you are in for rude awakening. :irked: Besides, SC only won one region title the last five years ( 2004) .
