What is Cantrell's real job?

I hope he doesn't lose it, because he does a pathetic job at ranking basketball teams.

That's an excellent question. I have been following Kentucky High School Basketball for a very long time and it seems to me that we've had these rankings for most of that time. I don't know if the dude is as old as me (or older) or if some member of his family has assumed the responsibility of taking it over or even possibly that the Lexington Herald-Leader has obtained the rights to using and publishing the Dave Cantrell Ranking System on their own.

NewCath beat PRP by 17 a week later. Rankings don't matter anyway. NewCath was #1 in the state in '01 and didn't make it out of the region.

 

Just like in 1984 when the Breds were 33-1 and ranked #1 in the State, made it to the Sweet 16, but lost to 14-15 Scott Co. :cry:

Taking nothing away from the teams that have been in the Top 10 all season, but there's a nice collection of teams peaking at the right time that I certainly wouldn't overlook.

 

For example:

 

Lex Cath beat Lafayette 3 out of 4 games this season including the recent district championship game, and where are they in the top 25???

 

Henry Clay just knocked off Scott Co. in their district championship game and that's certainly nothing to sneeze at.

 

I'm not buying any rankings at this point. The real deal in on the court.

Not a member of the team, I was in the last group cut my freshmen year and never tried out again. Still remember Ron Dawn telling me, "you're one hell of a shooter, but you can't play defense." :lol2: Who needs defense, when you can "light it up" from beyond the top of the key. :clap:

 

I was in the stands at Rupp watching, It was my senior year (83/84).

LexCath is not peaking. Henry Clay is.

I think the love for the 12th has officially gotten a little crazy at this point.

It is a Math based ranking, there is no bias in numbers. It is based on who beat who and by how much. It does not count out of state games, it does not account for who was injured and is back now or who was playing and is now out, it does not account for who is playing well lately.......it is just Math.

It does not matter if Team A beat Team B by 1 last week it simply looks at Team A versus Team B over the entire season.

Associated Press will be out in the morning. That's what I personally go by. It's usually close to dead on.

You sure about NCC being #1 in state in 01 . I know that was a good team and front runner in 9th that year but I don't recall them being #1.
