February 26, 201412 yr I HATE it when we're on Standard time. Love it not getting dark until 8 or later. Sent from my iPhone using Forum Runner
February 26, 201412 yr I could get on board with this. Without googling, what was the purpose for DST in the first place? Was it a farming deal?

February 26, 201412 yr Author I could get on board with this. Without googling, what was the purpose for DST in the first place? Was it a farming deal? Yeah to give more day light in the summer to farmers. Side effect: Little League Electric bills will go up if the lights have to come on an hour earlier every night.

Never really understood it myself. Couldn't they just get up earlier? It's not like it actually gives creates more day light.

Look at it this way, you work til 5pm at your job. DST you have until 8:30-9:00 before it gets dark to get work done. Standard time you only have until 7:30-8:00 before it gets dark.
February 26, 201412 yr Disagree-I like springing forward and falling back! Besides aren't there more pressing issues that our lawmakers should be concerned about?:idunno:
February 26, 201412 yr It's been proposed to be abandoned from time to time over the years, but it's never gotten anywhere. I would support getting rid of it. If I'm not mistaken, DST was originally used by some farming communities in the 1800's, but it wasn't really used en masse until the Germans began using it during WWI so they could take advantage of daylight and wouldn't use so many fuels and resources for the sake of keeping buildings lit.

What do you see as a benefit of getting rid of DST and just keeping the clocks the same all year?
February 26, 201412 yr Author FWIW a good portion of Indiana used to stay the same all year while the rest of the state changed. They finally reconciled the entire state to DST several years ago.
February 26, 201412 yr We should just split the difference, adjust the clock 30 minutes worldwide and then leave it alone.
February 26, 201412 yr Author We should just split the difference, adjust the clock 30 minutes worldwide and then leave it alone. :lol2: there are a few countries that are a half hour off from the rest of the world, I think Iran is one of them.
February 26, 201412 yr What do you see as a benefit of getting rid of DST and just keeping the clocks the same all year? As someone who has diagnosed sleep problems...I can tell you that having to shift my sleep schedule by an hour in one direction or another will thoroughly disrupt what sleep schedule I manage to maintain for at least a week. I'm sure I represent one of MANY in saying that it's a real difficulty to me for almost two entire weeks each year. Add to that the fact that those time changes have been proven to diminish work productivity on a nationwide level in the days and even weeks following the time changes, and then look at that from the perspective of a business owner who has to pay for that drop in productivity, and you might be in favor of getting rid of DST.
