Explain to me how it has zero to do with it?

 

I want to make sure I am not misinterpreting you. Are you saying it takes a lot of money to attend camps? If so, then that's what I mean by has zero to do with it. The best camps are free and pay for your travel to get there. College camps are not expensive either. Why do you think you have to have a lot of money to get exposure?

Where are these camps located? These magical free camps. Every "camp" that I have seen that is put on by an institution or a person cost at least $125 dollars on up. Thats not counting the gas/eats money that goes along with it. All those over night trips that Barker took to camps, were they all free? I need to find these institutions that pay for all the mileage/room/board. Man you make it sound so easy. Please list all of the "Free camps that pay for travel" here so us poor country schools can take advantage.

I thought there was a charge to attend these camps and transportation was at your own cost. Unless you're talking the elite athletes who really don't need the exposure anyway?

They have, I know this for a fact. My nephew played a CBS game back in 2009 against Cinti St X and the amount of exposure he received and the other kids received from colleges after that game was incredible.

 

Now that 2009 team was pretty special and most of the kids would have been found and were already found but it certainly didn't hurt.

 

Plus when most of these games are televised nationally they usually do a very well documented segment on each schools locations and academic achievements and that is where it is all at imo.

 

And sadly yes, it is all about money even at the HS level. Example, recent KY hs buyouts.

Isn't the main reason T plays all of these other teams because they can't get any other local teams to schedule them?

Most of us assume that Trinity plays the schedule they do because they can't get KY schools on the schedule. But is that really the case?

 

I honestly have no idea. Someone much closer to the program would be better equipped to answer.

The article is saying Kentucky players are now learning that to get recognition by colleges they need to attend national camps and combines. The article is complimenting the players in the state.

Both Rivals and Nike camps are "free" in terms of the entrance fee.

 

The closest ones to us are in Atlanta, Columbus, or Chicago.

It would be interesting to see one of the list you have made about kids playing at the next level, just make a list of kids playing out of state at the next level. I'd be interested in seeing that.

So like i said its about money. If you have money you can get exposure. If you dont you better either be really good and still have some money or a provider in your program that can help out with room/ gas/ board. Makes you wonder how all these players go to all these camps, on all these college visits and to all these combines on their own dime.

It is definitely about money. No one said it is cheap, but I look at it as an investment. If you feel the athlete is good enough if just given the opportunity to play at the next level then look at the money spent as an investment. For the cost of a camp ($150) or whatever spent can end up being worth thousands of dollars.

 

We made an investment of about $1,000 for a recruiting service and in the end has paid off with great returns.

For that initial investment our son is now getting about $200,000 over 4 years in scholarships etc. to play football.

As I've said in the past, he was only able to go to 1 camp and that got him a lot of recruiters interested but the school he chose wasn't from the camp he went to, but they originally discovered him from the recruiting service. From there they got game films etc. and invited him for visits etc.

 

Unfortunately it is the nature of the beast. It does cost money to get him out there and noticed, but it is also an investment. If you don't have the money then you can always go the route of making a video and sending the video and letter out yourself to all the schools you want to. That would be the cheapest way to do it and you will also get results that way.

There were several others that kept (and continue to this day) to call and try and get him up for a visit etc. but they are all over the country, too far to take a couple days off and drive too etc. no way we can afford to fly to any of those just for a visit. So that also plays into where you want to visit etc.

What's it cost to go to Trinity a year? I would think that those who can pay for their kids to go to Trinity would have enough money to send their kid to whatever camp that they wanted. Thus they have these great recruiting successes. Now let's look at Highlands who spends more on coaching salaries than most school's football budget. Where does the money come from? Taxes and boosters. So getting on here and saying that money has no bearing on how a kid gets recruited is farsigned. The games that they play that gets them national exposure which is to do one thing......bring in more kids. It is the best advertisement that a school could ever get.

You are right and it's always been about the money.

You also make a great point about the schools and the costs to attend those schools and how that also correlates to who can afford to send their kids to all the camps etc. That has been overlooked big time also and you are right.

 

Now of course there are kids that parents don't have the money to do all these things but still get recruited etc. but the fact is without outside participation (I'm talking outside of simply playing for the high school team) it's few and far between that someone will be recruited a lot. You more times than not have to participate in camps.combines or recruiting services to get noticed. Just playing for Highlands or Trinity won't et the majority of those players scholarships to play football, they have to do the extra things to still get noticed and that costs money.
