Reds Extend Homer - 6 Years $100 Million

Featured Replies

Who else would pay him 100 million dollars?

He'll command at least $100M on the open Free Agent Market. Any team in the market for a top of the rotation guy would give him that or more next offseason. Think about it this way...Arroyo just got $11M a year for 2 seasons at age 34. Homer is much better, and much younger. Giving him $16.5M a year is a fairly reasonable price for the Reds to pay.

I'll ask....How much do you think Homer is worth? (Years & $ amount)

Not sure, but when I think of 100 million dollar pitchers, I think of C.Lee, C.C, Holiday..Homer Bailey doesn't come to mind for that price sorry....His current contract he made 5.3 million. So your telling me he deserves a 11 million dollar a year increase for what he's done with the reds?

The $5M wasn't an open market salary. It was limited because he could not enter the FA market.

The market decides and starting pitching gets paid a premium.

Again, Bronson got $11M per year on the downside of his career. That should tell you what a 27 yr old pitcher on the upswing will get.

Gotcha..Just saying, if I were the Reds, I would be the ones who paid him 100 million. Hopefully he turns out to be worth it.

CC got 5 years/$122M

Lee got 5 years/$120M

Both are a pretty good chunk above what Homer is going to get.

Yes, he deserves that amount.

They were going to be paying him over $10M this year, regardless of whether or not they signed him long-term.

Guys like Mark Buerhle are in line for $19M this season. Edwin Jackson is a cool $13M. Josh Beckett is $18M. Is Bailey not better than all 3 of those guys?

The MLB guys who do this for a living were predicting Bailey's FA contract would be a minimum of $126M over 6 years after this coming season. So it seems like most around the game think he's well-worth it.

The I only thing that excites me about Bailey being around for 6 more years is that when he is on he's really on. He really needs to get more consistency for my liking but that can be worked out. Also his ERA in losses was 5+, he needs to get that down a bit. As long as this doesn't hinder the Reds in signing Latos then go for it.

MLB pitching is a nice profession...

Yes, it is. Like others have stated, we'd be getting him for a little bit less than what a lot of people predicted it would cost to sign him. So like I said, I hope we can get the deal done for him. I understand your hesitations though for sure.
