What does the total number, and the number of players in each division, say about the state of Kentucky High School Football?

  • Author

I closed the other Commitment List Thread, if there are any more commitments, please post them in this thread and I will add those players to this list.

I like seeing 4 young men going to the USNA.

The thing that strikes me as I look at the list - a good number of solid football players; very few top tier players.

It says the In-state schools are doing a good job recruiting the state and signing players. But I do agree the state seems to not have very many top-tier players this year that were signed to schools not in KY.

Darius Spivey-Nunn (sp) Tilghman - SIU

Rondell Green, RB/DB Warren Central - Indiana State University

While nowhere near the same kind of state as Ohio or Florida due to population, I see that there are a good number of FCS (1AA)-ability players in this state -- including, unfortunately, some who ended up on the NAIA/D2 list.

What REALLY jumps out to me is we have a good number going to out of state 1AA's like Southern Illinois, UT-Martin, Indiana State, etc. Am wondering how many of those got offers from EKU or Murray? And how hard those two schools -- both of which only signed THREE Ky. HS football players -- recruited those Ky. kids now heading out of state?

I think we see a great deal of NAIA signees due to a low number of D2 schools in-state and a good number of NAIA schools in-state. Every year I see players going to NAIA schools that could easily play D2 or FCS, this year is no different.

I, personally, know of several players that received strong interest, and offers, from several D2 and FCS out-of-state schools but received zero interest from the two in-state D2 schools and very little (one school) interest from in-state FCS schools.

Why is "schools not in Kentucky" important to the process? There were several players who were heavily recruited by out-of-state schools but chose in-state schools.

EKU and Murray do a terrible job recruiting instate considering the product they put on the field with mostly out of state players. I would argue both schools could win just as many games as they have the past 10 years if they were only allowed to recruit in state. If they were winning the OVC and 10 games a year with what they were recruiting, I would understand. But they aren't coming close to that. Then they wonder why their attendance is abysmal.

You can add Kentucky Wesleyan (D2) to that as well, I would dare say Wesleyan would win more games with more Kentucky talent then what they have been recruiting from Texas, Indiana and Ohio. They went 0-for 2013.

KWC is on another planet in terms of their recruiting. But I don't believe the KWC administration cares anything about having a viable football program.

I agree on all fronts.

With the recent success Western Kentucky has had with in-state recruits, it would seem that EKU, Murray and Wesleyan would catch on. Heck, even when Petrino was at Louisville the first time, he was winning with in-state recruits.
