I agree, but it seems to be the case.

 

"Let's recruit Florida and Texas" seems like a good idea on the surface. The problem is recruiting them versus "recruiting" them.

 

"Recruiting" to me is getting quality players to sign. Good luck for a small school in Kentucky trying to make inroads and stretch their recruiting budget like that unless there's already some kind of connection in place. IMO, even if you do have the connection, there are probably 10x as many schools just like you who have that same idea and level of connectivity.

I agree a good number but parents and players need to realize that's less than 4% of seniors in the state who played football. 1/2 the players probably wont be playing after 2 years. HIT THE BOOKS

Definitely the most important thing to take away. Great point.

 

It's staggering the number of my freshman players each year that, when asked by me, think they're going to eventually get a full-ride to college. I know it's a downer to them, but one of the first lessons I go over in our pre-practice classroom sessions are the stats that show how UNLIKELY that is to happen.

We mean, the state as a whole likes it's football better then it does any other sport. UK is good at basketball, so many say that makes the state a basketball state, but it is far from true. UK basketball does not equal great high school basketball.

I myself love basketball, that doesn't mean I wasn't a better football player. Sometimes what you are best at is not what you love most. Its all about the competition.

Lets see :16 schools in one town at one time, indoors, home of the "Kentucky Wildcats", March Madness frenzy, David vs Goliath (sometimes) usually Goliath vs Goliath with one team being a prohibited underdog. "SWEET SIXTEEN" is a great tourney that the KHSAA manipulates to make a lot of money. Still for 80% of schools in the state Football is their cash cow. But that aside I lean more towards the argument that we do not have the pluthera of great basketball players in this state that everyone thinks. Yes we have some very good players and some great coaches. How many signees will they have in basketball this year. How many will be at our D1 state schools? Don't confuse love for the game for what you are best at. JMO
