Who coaches HHS?

Ben Franzen is the Head Coach and Parker LaBoiteaux is the assistant. Both do a great job with the kids and seem to have a really good feel for the game.

He is prob referring to Spencer Pangallo!

Spencer Pangallo did play as did the Moeves boy. NCC really only plays 6 kids, but probably have 14 or so on the team.

Spencer Pangallo is a freshman. There are no 8th graders on the basketball team. The Pangallo that is an 8th grader is Steven who plays for Holy Trinity.

I believe HHS is 9-6. They are really starting to play some good ball! As mentioned plenty of talent in the six that play for NCC but on this night they were flat and didn't shoot the ball well. HHS took advantage and wanted it more. I can't say enough about the coaching, the kids, and the buy in! Traylor shot the ball well and Murray had his best game to date. LaFrange and Finfrock has been consistent all season and have taken leadership roles. Doty, Gosney, and Bowden had limited minutes but have stepped up on more than one occasion. Rust continues to improve at the point as Greene the other frosh starts at point on the JV. The HHS team is coming along nicely and it is nice to see and read a positive HHS basketball post!!

I have never understood this. Why keep more than 11? Let the other 3 move on to baseball conditioning, track, football conditioning or something else.

I believe Cov Cath has 16 or 17 on their frosh squad, that is not counting cvh.

That is tough...Im sure it has to be frustrating for the kids and parents to sit through those games.

12 is max IMO.

Why even play that's stuuuuuuupid!

Would not want to be an NCC freshman at practice today!

With all the running they will be doing, I can see a lot of this :puke:

I have no problem with Freshman teams in all sports keeping a lot of players on the roster. The parents and players at both CCH and NCC (and other schools who do this) both know the teams are going to be large in basketball. They DO have the option of not trying out. This was also the case in Soccer and of course no-cut Football. Many players know they may not get in the games but get to see what it takes to play, the practice and training required to get on the field, and just the being on team means a lot to some kids. Couple that with the fact that kids grow and maybe a Summer of work and practice may make a difference. If after Freshman year they decide its not worth it then they may dedicate their time to other activities.

The schools don't mind it because they do collect $125.00 or thereabouts to play the sport. Don't think that's not a factor.

Now, I do have issue with kids not getting during blowout games or guaranteed lopsided affairs. I think the coaches need to get them in when they can.

Highlands busted out to a 7 to 0 lead on NCC in the early minutes and then NCC had a 12-0 run before Highlands finally scored a basket in the 2nd quarter to trail 12-9 at the half. Game was pretty even in the second half with the momentum changer being a 3 pointer by Cam Johnston to give the Birds the lead again. NCC made a lot of unforced turnovers and honestly did not shoot the ball that well as a team, but they battled to the bitter end. Highlands got a big and one from Luke LaFrange that seemed to seal the deal late. Both teams shot the ball well from the free throw line late in the game. I would say Bryce Traylor and Grant Murray were the leading scorers for HHS and Austin Neff was probably the leading scorer for NCC.

I think Freppon with 10 points was NCC's leading scorer.

NCC does not charge $125. It is $75 a year that covers all sports, so I don't think coaches keep kids for the money.

Luke played all/most of the game but didn't score.

That's not good.
