January 23, 201412 yr Southern Smoke: Finally got to Southern Smoke last night. Disappointing would be putting it mildly. Maybe they need to work the kinks out, but one of the worst dining experiences in my life. They were out of numerous things on the menu, including ribs and chicken. I wound up getting a mediocre hamburger. Wife got brisket that was luke warm. Mac and cheese was stone cold. Draft beer was flat. Lady that waited on us was not in the right line of work. Place kind of smelled funny, couldn't quite place what the odor was. But alas, cornbread was good. Gonna try Elis next.

I am hoping I am not overhyping it in my mind because I have heard nothing but good things about it. Can anyone confirm, I hear you can bring your own beer since they do not serve alcohol? And cash or checks only, they do not take a card. Sounds like my kind of place.

Yes you can bring your own booze. They do not sell alcohol...
January 23, 201412 yr Author I seldom go to Martha's because of the smoke, but I never rated their BBQ all that high. The best in Murray is Bad Bob's BBQ. It is where the old T.J.'s BBQ is located if you remember it. Yes, I too do not like the smoke at Martha's...but will tolerate to go eat there, and actually hasn't been too bad the last couple of times I have been. Admittedly I haven't had the pork bbq there in quite a few years, but liked it the last time I got it there. I usually get their smoked turkey and smother it in their house made bbq sauce, with 3 or 4 vegetables as sides, and a big slice of chocolate of coconut crème pie to finish it off. Just don't have those real good home cooking joints here in the Frankfort area. Not familiar with Bad Bobs. Might look it up next time I'm down that way.

And for the meat and three veggie options, Hih Burger is far superior to any of the others. Not even close.
January 24, 201412 yr We had one in Newport years ago. Anyone remember Louis' Ribs, across the street from the Cabooze? The Bump Liquor Store!
