I'd say considering the history of he program (1973-2013) he was pretty successful. Outside Trent's 1977 AAAA At Large Championship team (11-3) , Younce's 1978 team (8-2), & Dunaway's 1990 team (9-3) TJ had the most consistent success.

All of that you listed should tell anyone that GC is a tough, if not impossible job and imo we all know why, had nothing to do with the coach, kids, talent, etc.. That pretty much leaves one area. :idunno:Bill Trent won a State Championship at GC and left. All others, regardless of record, ended up with the one common problem. :sneaky:

The only reason I don't want to see him go is Raceland will replace him from within the program.There is no one on the staff I would like to see have the job.the longer this goes on the harder it will be for Raceland to find a good coach.Just wish if was over.There was a lot of coaching turn over this off season,more than i can remember there ever being.

I agree. I knew when the time came Russell would seek out Coach Maynard, but at the same time I really thought Coach Evans deserves the opportunity already being in the system. If Coach Maynard does decline the job, I would hope Coach Evans is the next person it is offered to.

A job has to be posted for 30 days regardless if a school goes in house for that job or not. As Ram has said, everyone knew that Russell would contact coach Maynard. Should my info be correct the Russell admin contacted Maynard on the same day that they fired Ivan McGlone, probably before the ink was dry on the paperwork and/or before Coach McGlone had got out of the parking lot.

Should Maynard take the Russell coaching position then Raceland posts the job - As of right now there are at least 3 persons with coaching and/or head coaching experience within the school system - not counting the current coaching staff !

Should the Raceland administration go outside for a replacement then I would believe that there would be a long list of applicants. A history, tradition like Raceland football has imo it would be a desirable job.

 

Having said all of that and all the post on this subject.....all are null and void should coach Maynard not accept the Russell job so all any one of us can do is wait to see what happens and then comment. jmo

Oldrambler, I believe you are speaking of Coach Lewis, who is a current assistant at Raceland and coached for 30 years with Coach Lutz at Ironton.

 

Coach Lee Evans is a current Russell Assistant Coach who was previously the Boyd County Head Coach.

Congradulations to Coach Maynard if this rumor is true. Only he knows whats best for his family. He has always been a hard nose coach that puts his hart into game.

o.k., I knew that was for a teaching position and was assuming that whoever a new hire/coach would teach in the school system and would have to be posted for 30 days. I wasn't thinking about that should a school hire a head coach in house.

If the rumors are true, I would like to see the administration go outside of the program to find a replacement. I honestly don't think Salmons is ready to run a program. Lewis would be a good choice, but he has to be close to retirement, so you would probably be going through the same thing in a few years and outside of him, I don't know of any other members on the staff who are ready.
