North Oldham JOB

Featured Replies

Coach J he sounds like a good canidate I don't doubt that at all. I do know of a few cases where some assistants were highly involved in the hiring.

True...you're right...I probably spoke too early and assumed too much.

All my "assertions" were just that...nothing based on any "definite" info. He may or may not be in on the hiring...I don't know that much about things there (remember, I just talked about how good the FUTURE of the program looks...I don't know anything really on anything related to the 'hiring of a new coach' process -- heck, it's not even officially OPEN yet!)

But since there was such a big turnaround after he was hired on there as DC (2004 season) I ASSUME (and yes, I know what that makes me ) both the school and the new head coach would want to keep him around.

Especially since he's a parapro that works 5 minutes from the school, has a flexible schedule, has 8 years Coordinating experience with MAJOR success (4 different years has had defenses at AA, AAA, and AAAA schools that have been ranked in the top 10 in the state in rushing defense at the end of the year), and there wouldn't need to be a "certified teacher" hired to fill a spot (a MAJOR concern for any new head coach).

...you'll have to inquire with the AD there about the hiring process WHEN the job "officially" comes open.

So it is like you "sort of" know

I was always told if your not for sure not to speak

And what does the big turnaround roll your eyes thing mean? Henry County went up with their program every year since 2002. They had 3 coaches on the staff in 02, 2 in 03, 6 in 04 and 7 in 05. That was what helped them the most, and the ability to split the staff and give more individual time to the kids.

Coach Martin went out and got papapro's to field his staff and had only one teacher in the building. To me that was the turning point in their program. NO coach is any more important than the team. Henry County was improved in all phases of the game not just defense. The kids are still in the weight room working hard(with Coach Martin) and working towards next season.

Coach Hadden has done a wonderful job as defensive coordinator. Henry County would be smart to try to keep him. I know Coach Martin thinks the world of him on several levels and wishes him the best whatever he does.

You're right...that's why I apologized for ASSUMING the new coach (or the current one if he DOES stay -- not sure if he's made it official that he's leaving or staying yet) would want to retain any current assistant.

I more than "sort of" know...but it wouldn't be professional for me to say publicly on a message board (notice, all I posted about Henry County Football was VERY positive).

But...YOU seem to be the maybe the BEST source to know whether the job is a "sort of" or not (referenced the fact that you know the kids at HC are lifting still and that they're with Coach Martin).

Could YOU perhaps shed some light on whether or not the Henry Co. job is "sort of," "officially," or in some other way open?

Big turnaround: in the two years before the current Def. Coordinator (who I asserted WOULD be staying on regardless) -- Henry Co. was 1-9 and then 3-7.

Then, after his hiring, they went 7-4 and 6-5 in the next two seasons.

Again, this was COMPLETELY in hopes of being POSITIVE about the future of the program regardless of who else might be staying, going, etc. Nothing to get defensive about (no pun intended! :D ).

And I COMPLETELY agree with you that there's MUCH more to a team doing well than any one coach, player, etc. -- however, I know how much of a higher level the teams I coached at Oldham County played on when that DC (Mount Hadden) was the Def. Coach compared to the guy that did it before him that wasn't so good -- uh, that guy was ME!

But you can't say that if EVERY ONE of the years you have an All-State running back or receiver JUST HAPPEN TO BE the same exact years your team ever went to the regional finals, that EVEN THOUGH THINGS WERE BEING DONE WELL IN OTHER AREAS, that it wasn't the impact of the ONE All-State kid that took you to another level. (And I'm humble enough as a coach to say that exact thing -- every year we did very well, we had one key "impact player." That's not saying I did a much different job as a coach any of those other years, but I'm honest enough to give credit where credit is due those years we did have the ONE player that "made all the difference.")

It was the fact that that defense was ranked in the state's top 10 at the end of the season in rushing defense (something they always did under his direction while he was at Oldham Co. as well) to me was a way to say to people out there that regardless of whether there's someone new in there as the "head coach," something good was LIKELY going to remain.

I know Billy Martin, he's an honest guy about his abilities and like any good head coach, he knows to give the most credit where credit is due...and I bet if you talked to him, he'd be honest enough to admit a similar kind of "impact" happened that wouldn't have otherwise had he not hired Coach Hadden to run the defense. I meant what I said as a POSITIVE about the future of Henry Co...NOT as a "negative" about anybody else -- ESPECIALLY Billy Martin, who's done a VERY good job being the head coach of a program that went from 1 win to a lot more.

Billy's an "in-demand" Head Coach because of the good job he's done, obviously for all this to be happening. I'm sure if he's on these message boards he's agreeing with me about the impact of Coach Hadden. (Evidenced by the fact he wasn't too happy when I tried to convince his DC to move to EKy. with me! And I didn't blame him one bit!).

Part of doing a good job as a head coach is to surround yourself with GOOD PEOPLE. Billy has done a GREAT job of doing this at HC and will continue wherever he's head coach!

And what does the...roll your eyes thing mean?

...and the EYE-ROLL was about me realizing people would do the old "ASSU-ME" comeback when I used the word assume. Nothing more than that. What did you think it meant? Again, my post was 100% about being positive about the future of HC football. I'm wondering why you'd be trying to read anything other than that into it?

??? Where did that come from? Sounds like there's some "malice" behind your comment???

My only motivation for posting anything in this thread is that I have someone I used to coach with at a school that I'm as close to as a brother. He was EXTREMELY loyal to me and was willing to do EVERYTHING I ever asked him and always went BEYOND that...in the end, he made ME look a LOT better than I really was -- and I believe in always trying to repay that kind of LOYALTY.

The tone of the thread looked like it was starting to venture into the land of "Henry County is hurting with all this." I just wanted to turn it into a more POSITIVE post.

(And I'm glad you've got knowledge that the kids there ARE in the weight room working hard...that adds to the positivity!).

Good luck to ALL involved... I know Henry Co. football will be in VERY good shape with what's going on there in the future. Coach Martin's got a good situation EITHER place he is...with the NOHS job, he'll have a GREAT Principal to work for, a supportive superintendent, and a growing talent base. At Henry, I've already mentioned many reasons why he'll be in good shape.

He's a lucky guy!

Sure was alot of info. packed in that post.

Tall Trees, that is great info to know about. Sounds like Martin would be a great man to really get things rolling at NOHS.

Heard today from an assistant in the Louisville-area that it's finally official? Anybody know for sure? He said he has applied at Henry County and was told that Martin was headed to North Oldham for sure??? Kind of a weird situation with this opening.

I understand Coach Satori was one of the finalist at North and then was never contacted again!
