Style Network was re-branded as Esquire Network on September 23, 2013.

Why are they producing a Documentary on Youth Football gone wrong?

TWC carries it in Louisville.

Wow - brings back memories of what I had an old youth football coach tell me many years ago -- ' you hit him so hard that he pukes all over you' ' thats the best compliment you can get, having him throw up on you'

Wikipedia definition:

Reality television is a genre of television programming that documents unscripted situations and actual occurrences, and often features a previously unknown cast. The genre often highlights personal drama and conflict to a much greater extent than other unscripted television such as documentary shows.

Here is the problem I have with the show: kids are becoming less and less likely to want to participate in football and this certainly is not helping. You may think, what kids are watching the Esquire network? The commercials for this have been all over Hulu for the last week or so, so there is a good chance a lot of kids are at least seeing the advertisement. If I am a young kid, and I am on the fence about wanting to play football, why would I sign up thinking I'm going to be screamed at, my parents will go off the deep end, and I am going to get my head knocked off? We act like concussions are the only reason pop-warner involvement was down 9% nationwide this year; the perceptions that our young people have of the game certainly have every bit as much if not more to do with it and programs like this, while most adults realize it is being over-sensationalized, are only adding to the negative.

This does for youth football what Toddlers and Tiaras does for kid pageants...shows that a lot of parents warped sense of self worth is wrapped up in their kids performance and awards. Both show the absolute worst there is to offer of the two subjects.

Waiting for the spinoff from this (ala Here comes Honey Boo Boo), Here comes Bill Jim Bob!!!

Well it was interesting. I hope none of it was "staged" for the show........but really I hope a lot of it was because how big of an idiot are some of the coaches?

Reading the article and seeing San Antonio, it doesn't surprise me. They can live vicariously through their kids and push them until they resent them for the rest of their lives if they want, I don't see San Antonio football overtaking Houston, or even Dallas, anytime soon on the youth and high school levels.

"If you cut 'em with a knife, they bleed"... way to represent San Antonio. That's the best representation I could give anyone of it if they ventured off of the Riverwalk and out into parts of the city when it comes to the mentality of the average person you'll meet down here unless you are camped way out in Burbs. Don't get me wrong, the Riverwalk is like Disneyland, but there are lots of parts of San Antonio (read: too many) that are just straight trash.

I watched the first show, or 2 shows I should say. It really wasn't as good or interesting as I thought it would be.

Yes, they do have a couple d-bag coaches who seem to take it a little too far, but nothing that doesn't go on here or anywhere else in the country when it comes to pee wee coaches.

The one disturbing scene though was when a coach at a practice with his 8 and 9 year old players was having the kids chant F*** the (name of the other team) over and over and over again. Thought that was a bit over the top with 8 and 9 year olds.

Hopefully it gets better because I'm DVR'ing the series.
