WLEX-18 confirms Chuck Smith to Madison Central

Having covered MC and seen them play in person and talked to some of the MC folks expectations this year may have been too high. It was a team that lost a lot of special talent to graduation and was overall young. It then got decimated with injuries during a rough stretch early on in the season. If they also have the 'talent hording' problem with other sports programs that only makes it even harder.

But it seems the elements are there for good improvement if Smith is allowed to get the right foundation in place.

He immediately makes MC a "must follow" program. Good luck to him.

I don't know why UK would tarnish his legacy. All he did was pump out All-SEC players as the linebackers coach, and recruit some of the highest rated classes in UK history, to that point, as recruiting coordinator.

Not to mention 5 straight bowl games.

He was part of the period of greatest sustained success in UK FB history, besides Bear Bryant.

Nothing to be ashamed of.

Is been my experience that people who spend a lot of time worrying about "legacy" don't have one. People like Chuck who are driven to succeed are not afraid of a challenge and are more concerned with doing what they love than they are with "legacy".

Are you suggesting Coach Feldhaus encourages his basketball players to specialize and avoid other sports?

Yes he does. Dont most basketball coaches.

Great Hire.. as an alumni of Madison Central's program and having familiarity with Boyle County growing up, one thing Coach Smith will do that others have lacked is unify the programs leading up to Varsity Football. Middle School to Pop Warner will be ran as feeder programs with similar principles instead of pay/participation leagues. I think this is crucial in building a dominant football program. Richmond is rarely void of decent talent; just needed the right individual to put the pieces together.

Trinity, Scott Co, St X, Male, Ballard all welcome the challenge.

As they should. Hopefully in the next 3-5 years they'll no longer be bored with each other.

All do to some degree. It depends on the individual school system as to whether they can get away with it or not.

Will Chuck also teach classes?

15-39 the last five years, it loos like Mr. Smith has his work cut out for him.

He inherited worse at Boyle. This should be fun to watch.

Tough schedule for him. Be interesting to see if he can make Central a real power.

Congrats to Chuck and I'm glad he has found a home. This is great for 6A.
