January 9, 201412 yr HC - Bobby Petrino OC - Garrick McGee - The head coach at UAB just resigned to become the offensive coordinator at Louisville. OL - Chris Klenakis - Iowa State's offensive line coach is headed to Louisville to join Bobby's staff. He also worked with Petrino while the pair were at Arkansas. WR - Lamar Thomas - The former Miami/Tampa Bay Bucs player was a good recruiter for Western and he knows Miami well. He should be a strong addition to the recruiting force. RB - Kolby Smith - Former Louisville running back is a strong recruiter and loves Louisville. QB - DC - Kevin Steele - The former defensive coordinator at Alabama and Clemson (he was also associate head coach at Alabama) is coming to Louisville from Alabama where he was director of player personnel this past year. DL - Clint Hurtt - The Louisville assistant will stay in place as defensive line coach according to Bobby Petrino. DL - L.D. Scott - The former Louisville player coached DL, but he could be a defensive assistant or DE coach at Louisville. Not sure of his title yet. LB - Nick Holt - Western's defensive coordinator was a defensive line coach prior to being a defensive coordinator, but he can also coach linebackers. DB - Terrell Buckley - Cuurently on staff at Akron ST - Thoughts? I am not sold on the DC. He was very average evertime he held the position in the past.
January 10, 201412 yr So Nick Holt is for sure out of the running as WKU's new HC? I'm like you…it doesn't make sense that Holt isn't at least the DC. Dude is intense, knows his stuff and can coach his butt off...
January 10, 201412 yr Clint Hurtt staying says wonders about the UL program, Jurich and Petrino. Oh no! You don't approve!?
January 10, 201412 yr It's not often a D1 head coach resigns to become and OC. He was making 550K at UAB, so it couldn't possibly be a raise in pay, or could it?
January 10, 201412 yr It's not often a D1 head coach resigns to become and OC. He was making 550K at UAB, so it couldn't possibly be a raise in pay, or could it? Article I read said he was essentially a "dead man walking" at UAB. Said it's one of the worst handful of jobs in D1, and that he was simply looking out for his future.
January 10, 201412 yr Article I read said he was essentially a "dead man walking" at UAB. Said it's one of the worst handful of jobs in D1, and that he was simply looking out for his future. Nestled smack in the middle of Crimson Tide Territory with (I'm sure) a hefty number of Auburn fans sprinkled in, how on earth could you possibly get people to care about UAB? That job has to be terrible.
January 10, 201412 yr ^ Both of those were always rumored. I'm not sure how many of them are actually committed at all.
January 10, 201412 yr I am glad Steele isnt coming. I was concerned about his ability. I'd like a guy with a proven ability to coach a solid defense and recruit good players. Of course, I suppose that guy is probably a head coaching candidate somewhere. Any names you'd like to see right now as a DC?
January 10, 201412 yr Author Tyrone Nix - has been at So. Miss and So. Carolina - currently at MTSU Mike Cassidy - done a nice job his last time here.
