January 10, 201412 yr DE Michael Johnson (UFA) - Resign OT Anthony Collins (UFA) - Resign WR Andrew Hawkins (RFA) - Resign S Chris Crocker (UFA) - Let go S Taylor Mays (UFA) - Resign WR Brandon Tate (UFA) - Bye CB Brandon Ghee (UFA) - Resign LB Vincent Rey (RFA) - Resign OG Mike Pollak (UFA) - Resign TE Alex Smith (UFA) - Let go WR Dan Sanzenbacher (RFA) - Resign OT Dennis Roland (UFA) - Let go P Zoltan Mesko (UFA) - Let go DT Ogemdi Nwagbo (UFA) - Let go Outside of Johnson and Collins, you resign those for cheap. They can be easily replaced anyway.
January 10, 201412 yr These are the ones I'd keep and who I wouldn't Collins and Johnson as priorities. Rey and Hawkins as secondary guys. Luckily his price tag probably went down some this year from last year, because it seems like D lineman get paid more when they have big sack years. His sack total was much less this year, so his value may be down but it probably will still be hard. Especially since they probably will try to lock up Green, Vontez will be wanting to get paid, Anthony Collins is also more important to sign back than Johnson IMO. So I think it will be hard to sign him back, and may not be smart to have that much money used on Dline, however if it happens I obviously will still like it.
January 10, 201412 yr For sure let Crocker go. Then when you need him during the season just go get him off his couch

Bengals drafted Hunt No. 2 in April to be a cheaper replacement for Johnson, but not sure Hunt is ready to play a majority of the defensive downs. I'd definitely try to keep Ghee, Rey and Hawkins. When Hawkins is healthy he's an explosive player. I can't see paying serious money to keep Collins. Some mock drafts have the Bengals taking an offensive tackle in the first round. Makes sense to me.
January 10, 201412 yr Maybe it's just me, I'm not going to throw a lot of money at Hawk, he's very replaceable and the receivers we have he is at the end of the food chain.

Besides Green and Jones which receivers would you rank ahead of him to put him at the end of the food chain? Sanu has potential but hasn't completely shown it yet. Hawkins and Saz. are similar but Hawkins can do the same things as him but also the potential to break the big play. So unless Hawkins price tag is high, which I don't see his price tag being that high at all. Then I think they definitely should bring him back. However if his price tag is high then I agree.

Collins has more than proven himself that he is a starting tackle in the league and can play right or left tackle. Which he didn't allow one sack this year and the line was better with Whit at guard. Don't assume just because you draft a tackle in the first round that they will be good. There has been plenty of first round tackles who ended up not playing well at all. Michael Oher is one of them and probably is going to be released by the Ravens they are saying. Collins is a guy who knows the offense and has shown he is a starter in the league and the Bengals have the cap space to pay him. Makes much more sense to sign him back than drafting a tackle with their first pick.
January 10, 201412 yr Author For sure let Crocker go. Then when you need him during the season just go get him off his couch Since the Bengals know Crocker will be a vet minimum situation why not bring him to camp and let him compete?

And you have to consider how good he is on special teams. I would bring Hawk back as long as the price is right.

My concern on Collins would be Hue Jackson going to a more smash mouth offense and Collins being a better pass blocker than run blocker. The price would have to be right but I would probably bring him back.
January 12, 201412 yr Since the Bengals know Crocker will be a vet minimum situation why not bring him to camp and let him compete? Because they can cut him and re-sign him in week 4 when they're desperate for help.
January 12, 201412 yr Since the Bengals know Crocker will be a vet minimum situation why not bring him to camp and let him compete? No good reason to do that. Let someone else compete.
January 12, 201412 yr My concern on Collins would be Hue Jackson going to a more smash mouth offense and Collins being a better pass blocker than run blocker. The price would have to be right but I would probably bring him back. Even though Hue will run more, I don't think we will see running the ball more than passing. It may get much closer to 50/50 than it was with Gruden. However with the weapons we have on offense I still see him even passing the ball just as much as running. He really is just going to change the mindset, to try to make sure when we do run we are successful. Having a good line is important, and it is not always easy to find a good lineman in the NFL. We know Collins is probably one of the best pass blockers in the NFL. However our other 4 starting lineman are more run blockers, so having one true pass blocker in the starting 5 is better than having 5 mainly run blockers IMO. The Bengals have a lot of cap space, so I see no reason why they should let him go. Whit is better as a guard, and finding a quality LT is hard.
