Love my friends to death and their life is private. As for coaches of 18 to 20 somethings and teaching and coaching and hopefully along the way instilling values that they should be learning while in college to be able to prosper in life, yes, I would expect them to practice what they preach and I would hope it would be that of hard work, perserverance dedication and commitment payoff. It is not just about winning football games, but learning life lessons.

. I am not personally acquainted with Coach Beatty. I am speaking from a general perception that most people can remain friends with someone despite that friend's failings. I think that usually the closer friends people are, the more likely they are to fins a way to remain friends. I also think that outsiders have a way of judging people without knowing them. I also don't see where Coach Beatty has condoned anything. I DO feel he probably has a more in depth perspective. He is apparently a close friend. And he also knows the entire family, having coached 2 of the children.

 

He coaches at a Catholic school. The Catholic doctrine certainly doesn't condone adultery. However, I was taught to hate the sin, love the sinner. I also know that we Catholics put a lot of stock in personal redemption.

 

I am not sure, though, what him teaching and coaching at Trinity has to do with how he handles his friendships.

. I have no idea what transpired in Atlanta, but there have been indications that the situation wasn't as simple as presented. But it could have been...I really have no idea and it's really not my business. If you would like to call the C-J and offer your comments on the matter and call Coach Beatty a coward, I am sure they'd be delighted. I do feel Coach Beatty has endured his fair share of criticism from plenty of people posting under pseudonyms... I can't fault him for his feelings on this matter.

You overestimate the value of your opinion to me. You are entitled to your opinion, and I respect that. I, though, will offer my comments when I feel that I have something to say. I am not trying to change anyone's mind. I'm only reacting to what I feel is a gross generalization of someone that is as far removed from the situation as is possible. I'm just trying to point out that people will tolerate behavior of people in their personal lives what they publicly condemn high profile figures for.

 

I am in record as say in this site that I can't muster any enthusiasm for hiring Petrino as our coach. I will likely really enjoy watching our games, though, because I LOVE his style of offense. But I will be expecting the other shoe to drop. I will also say, I am a person who will unreservedly stand by people in my personal life until they screw me over royally, at which point I will walk away and never look back. My antipathy for Petrino comes from how he continually looked for another job while at Louisville and I am worried the work to improve the things like the graduation rate may be sacrificed. Period. As for his personal moral transgressions I feel those are between he and his wife. I don't expect anyone to be perfect and without failings. I also recognize that I can be just as harshly judged for things in my life by people who don't know me. Maybe because I'm not perfect, I am willing to accept that in pretty much anyone.

If we are honest, I think we all could say the same. Some of us may draw that line a little higher, or lower, than others, but I think all of us have a little bit looser standard when we know we are not going to be held accountable for what we type.

First, I personally I don't like Beatty or Petrino.

 

Second, I won't judge Petrino for adultery. A man is only loyal as his options, Quote from Chris Rock. If Faith Hill wanted a date, it would be pretty tempting for me! I just pray I would do the right thing, but I am human.

 

Third, I think the reason most people don't like Petrino is an accumulation of things. He has contradicted himself publicly (lied), sevaral times!

 

Finally, U of L did not hire him for his character, but his coaching ability. It is just the way big time sports are.

I am not a fan of Petrino, or certainly what he did. I remain just as disgusted with his attitude, etc. . That said, he is UL's problem. Forewarned is forearmed.
