Desert Classic

Featured Replies

Hate to say it but the info TEX put out is correct. Bracken, Williamtown, and Harrison bailed out on the Desert classic. I think it is pretty sorry way to treat a school that has put a program together. St. Pat drove in from Maysville on all of the same road Bracken would travel except for about 3 miles. Sure makes you wonder why they couldn't make it. Same with Harrison, we had people go through Cynthiana to get to State Wrestling. Makes you wonder. Sounds like some people got cold feet.

Bracken did not come because they know they would have been pounded by Scott. :ylsuper:

Scott who?

Scott Eagles!

It is clear that you guys live in the city. The AA,75, and 27 were probably cleared but what about the players getting to the school to meet the school bus. I do not know what the backroads were like, but I have been on a few back roads in Bracken and Harrison and it would be dangerous for students to drive on them if they were snowed covered. I bet the problem was not the main roads, it was the backroads. What good is it to play basketball, if you risk one of your players getting seriously hurt in a car wreck on the way to the school. Believe it or not, there are more important things in life than basketball. Not many but a few.

You think those roads are any worse than those in rural Campbell, Pendleton, Mason, etc.--Weak excuse!! Hardly the big city??

Even the back roads in those areas saw sunshine before time to leave and make the trip North.

The bus situation is the superintendent's call, not the head coaches call right?

I just want to know why the Polar Bears couldnt make it? I figured they would thrive in the weather we all woke up to yesterday.

That is probably correct, but I don't know of any coach that would not say to a supt. if they wanted to play, lets wait closer to time and see what it looks like.

Thanks to the teams who honored their commitment and played yesterday in the Desert. Great games and great fans. Special thanks to Scott and New Cath for playing each other after Harrison Co and Bracken Co dropped out. At least out of the 6 scheduled games there were three. Very surprised that the teams cancelled out but only they know the reasons why. Such a shame when the facilities are made available, officials are hired, food and teeshirts purchased, volunteers have commited their whole day and teams do not show. I wonder how many of the Bracken Co and Harrison Co fans ventured to Wal Mart or Kohl's in Alexandria yesterday???

:thumb: Most coaches I know would really push to play, unless it was way to dangerous to travel.

Im guessing a big 0 from the Harrison folk since it is about an hour away...

My child had a youth league game at 11:15 in the Ashland area and the roads I traveled were covered except for one lane on the highway. I dont live in the rural part of the area so I would imagine those roads were much worse. I've been on roads in Greenup Co. weeks after main roads were cleared and they still be snow covered and dangerous.

Just a hypothetical for everyone. A 17-Year old junior drives his car to high school to meet the bus for a Basketball Game in the Desert Classic and slides into a tree on the way there on snow covered roads and is killed. Where does the responsibility lie? Superintendent? Coach? School? Desert Classic? Fans? Parents? Tennager?

A child wrecks driving to the car and you ask who is at fault? That question can be applied to everything, everyday. If that is the reason by the schools that did not show that should be good enough. It is only a basketball game and it is not that big a deal. What should really be talked about is the silly thoughts that scheduling anything in Jan/Feb may have a weather problem and upset when it happens. That is called stupid.

So Bracken and Harrison who sign contracts and agree to play in this event, tell their Superintendents not to send them because of the weather the area received in the morning when both teams played afternoon games? What time did they cancel? That is a sad state of affairs when the coaches are just too lazy to bring their kids out to compete against other kids and they have that much influence on Superintendent's to do so.

Any program should know that in today's world you do not send them without a bus. I do understand that Calvary car pooled, but Harrison, Bracken-Bus!
