Desert Classic

Featured Replies

I drove up to Campbell County to watch a great afternoon of Basketball. When I arrived it was to my surprise that two afternoon games were canceled. Williamstown, Harrison, and Bracken all canceled afternoon games due to weather. The drive from Falmouth to Cynthiana must be bad. Same with Brooksville to Alexandria down the AA. I know the state doesn't do much for that road. I will say from Williamstown to Falmouth the drive is bad when there isn't snow. :sssh:

It is simply pitiful for schools to back out of a classic that early for afternoon games. If they didn't want to play, then don't take the spot. Let the real teams with Heart play the game.

The janitor did tell me to come back at 4:30 because

Scott vs. NCC

CCHS vs. Newport at 6

PCHS vs. Highlands at 8

I will pick the Breds, Camels, and my CATS.

Hate to say it but the info TEX put out is correct. Bracken, Williamtown, and Harrison bailed out on the Desert classic. I think it is pretty sorry way to treat a school that has put a program together. St. Pat drove in from Maysville on all of the same road Bracken would travel except for about 3 miles. Sure makes you wonder why they couldn't make it. Same with Harrison, we had people go through Cynthiana to get to State Wrestling. Makes you wonder. Sounds like some people got cold feet.

 That's week, it's not that bad out.

Yeah Harrison Co. cancelled at 10:00 this morning and their game wasn't until 4:30. Maybe they were afraid Pendleton would have had some scouts there to prepare for the district matchup.

Williamstown has a straight shot down I-75 and across 275 what's their deal?

Thanks to St. Pat for making the trip, good to see the double A was clear enough for them.

Usually what happens is bus service gets cancelled in the morning. Once that happens, the students aren't allowed to attend the event for participation, even by private vehicle. It's a safety issue.

Yes, but most schools even play games on snow days. Those buses don't go out till after school. I agree with you, but I think it is a weak excuse for a weekend game.

I-75, I-275 and AA--Yeah they never treat those highways?????? Pretty weak--Don't think I'd invite them back!!

I agree with you 100% BG.

School Bus Service on Saturdays? What bus lines serve Bracken County, Williamstown and Cynthiana other than maybe Greyhound?? I just think it's weak to cancel on a school at the last minute, after all the work they've put into organizing a nice event, just because a couple inches of snow fall; especially when the host school sits on a major throughfare and is accessible by roadways you know will be cleared!!

On second thought it might have been that same freak snowstorm that hit Covington last year, that didn't allow Holmes to make it to Alexandria, when everyone else in town was able to travel and play their games!! :D

Well said! Every tourney organizer should think twice about these schools in the future.

It is clear that you guys live in the city. The AA,75, and 27 were probably cleared but what about the players getting to the school to meet the school bus. I do not know what the backroads were like, but I have been on a few back roads in Bracken and Harrison and it would be dangerous for students to drive on them if they were snowed covered. I bet the problem was not the main roads, it was the backroads. What good is it to play basketball, if you risk one of your players getting seriously hurt in a car wreck on the way to the school. Believe it or not, there are more important things in life than basketball. Not many but a few.

But you don't get it...It is the Prestigious Desert Classic...
