I guess two bright spots in the loss were that they held 6'9 Robyn Missa to just 5 points and Devonte Green (#30 in the country 2016) to under 10 pts as well.

Lutheran is #41 nationally by USA Today and #45 nationally by Maxpreps, Someone told me tonight at Lloyd that they saw them as high as #18 nationally in another poll.

 

A national guy I talked to said they are easily top 25 in the country and it won't be long before they are put there by all of the "major sources for rankings."

 

Nope, no concern at all. Holmes has had all 5 starters lead them in scoring at some point during the first 10 games. Just a tough match up for the other kids and Bolden tends to try to dominate in games like this, which he did with 29 pts.

 

Lutheran has 5 kids starting who either hold a D1 offer or have D1 interest. They bring a 6'9 kid off the bench (Rojaye Campbell) who holds a George Mason offer with interest from UConn, Miami (FL), and Villanova.

 

No team in KY with that type of talent...including Ballard.

That's a BIG concern. They won't beat the really good teams getting points from those two only as evidenced today. I just don't see the quality consistent play out of the rest. Those two could start for anyone in the state and not be a drop off, the rest have to pick it up. I still don't see this team as good as last year's and I think NCC is better than last year, plus CCH about the same. Dixie is getting in a groove also. BUT, it is only one game against a really talented club, there's a lot of season left. Sounds like they were holding their own and got some of their own medicine, with an 18-0 spurt. Nothing bad comes out of playing these types of teams. Much tougher schedule than last couple of years.

I would agree wholeheartedly with this, very well said. Especially the bolded.

I don't think that being reliant on Bolden and Chames scoring will be the key for this Holmes team. There are other factors that will make or break them.

From talking to a couple of coaches in regards to the game today, the game got real physical in the second half and LIL took control. It will benefit Holmes to go outside of the state and play good competition, in the long run.

Is this team better overall than last year's team? That is still to be determined. I do think this Holmes team is better overall defensively and not as good overall offensively. The flip side is that Holmes should generate more offense from their defense than they did last year through transition offense and points off turns.

Bolden and Chames are their two best scorers, but keeping teams honest across the perimeter, forcing turnovers and not allowing bigger teams to run offense and rebounding will be the key to their season. In addition, Bolden is going to have to take care of the basketball and not have pointless turnovers. The knock on him coming out of summer play was his on ball defense versus equal or better talent and turnovers.
