Once again the facts of the day are ignored. There were buildings destroyed on campus and the Guard was called in, no destruction, no Guard, simply as that. Even when the Guard was there they showed restraint, they were backing away, when, for a reason still not known for sure, they opened fire. I did say innocents were killed, another fact I stated ,but liberals ignore. Many of those wounded and killed were not protesting. Those who were causing the bedlam on campus were far from innocent.

 

Too many ignore that actions have consequences and these same individuals do not want to face fact or truth. It is one thing to protest, but another to destroy someone else's property. It is at that point I lose all sympathy for the protesters.

Those who were protesting for their civil rights were doing the right thing and as a teenager at the time I supported them. But I was against any action that lead to destruction of property and loss of life.

I agree on the bolded...but I also don't believe the NG was there with any agenda to "Dispose of Liberals"

The students killed, innocents and destructive protesters alike, were shot by the Guard.

The Guard in an attempt to avoid confrontation backed away from the destructive protesters as they advanced on the Guard.

The Guard was on campus because the protesters had burned down a building paid for by the taxpayers of Ohio.

No destructive protesters, no Guard, no deaths.

 

Some only hear that the Guard shot students, never hearing that protesting students were destroying taxpayer property. The consequences of the protesters actions, burning down university property, was the Guard was called in, the students confronted the Guard and an unfortunate situation occurred.

However, to follow your point, I have learned, and I always reminded my children, when people are doing the wrong things, it is best to get as far away as possible. "Those injured are often affected by the ricochets". This is a tragic example. There was no excuse for the guard firing, nor is there any excuse for protestors vandalizing property and throwing rocks and bottles.

 

Lastly, if there are those who do not believe that significant part of the demonstrations, including those among blacks during the time was instigated, and/or motivated by communist sympathizers/organizers, you are uninformed about the events of the 60's. And also, many of those who considered themselves liberal-to-radical did not even realize they were being manipulated.

I agree with you. I understand that most were standing up for what they believed, but there were the extremists who manipulated the rest, that lead to violence and destruction. The results that the protesters I believe would have been gained without the division that was caused by the extremists.

A. To be perfectly honest (which I am, regardless of what some believe to be true or not true of liberals), I do not have fully formed opinions on Waco. I have not researched or read about it at all. I don't know if Kent State and Waco are "apples-to-apples" with respect to the shooting of bystanders.

 

2. We got off track because I genuinely wanted to know what kind of life-changing event would cause an intelligent (if misguided:jump:) member to say (and I'm paraphrasing) that liberals always lie because facts and truth aren't in their lexicon. That's quite a broad brush, and perhaps I shouldn't take it personally.
