Tonight, the Northern Kentucky Football Coaches Association will recognize players from all the Northern Kentucky football schools at a banquet. Each school gets to name one player and the coaches select the next six. Congratulations to all these players on their high school careers. Truly deserving.

I am sure there are a lot of players wwe all can think of to add to the list. For me, it is a shame Mac Franzen wasn't one of the next 6. What he did in moving to QB and leading his team to a state finals was a heck of an accomplishment.

Very tough when you limit to 26 and have to pick one from each of 20 teams. I'm sure Highlands had 11 kids better than a couple of the smaller schools.

The structure of this award really prevents it from honoring the best. I really hate to not see Seth Hope included.

This is an award designed first and foremost to recognize a student from every school. It is not meant to be the 26 best overall players. There are years that about 4 NKY schools would be recognized if this were the case.

And yes, I realize that the award is called "Top 26" but that is not the intent of the award.

Its called the Highlands football Award banquet. This is not really comparing apples to apples. There are some really good football players in smaller schools that go unnoticed because they may not have all the support around them to set records, go to the playoffs, get their names in the paper. This is an opportunity to spread the love.

Dale had to select someone. Cant argue with his selections.

Congrats to the players nominated by their coaches! I believe the criteria also includes community service, along with academics and sports.

Congratulations to all of the youngmen. A special shout out to longtime family friend Seth Caple. A fine choice for this award.

The Holmes coach did not nominate Jonathon Scruggs? That is interesting...

Great banquet tonight. Each player's resume was great to hear. What a room full of talent. Wow. Great job by Coach Warner and Skinny. Congrats to Coach Woolf, Brossart, Marksberry on their awards and Coach Mueller on his lifetime achievement award. Best of luck to all the kids down the road. High School football is special in so many ways. I will truly miss the Friday Night lights. Time to turn the page to the next chapter.

Marksberry received coach of the year.

Great event. I especially liked the speech by the wife whose husband lost his leg after an injury on the field. She did a great job. Being involved with Football myself over the years it takes a lot of time away from the family. Sounds like her husband loves the game and the kids. Her husband has gone through a tremendous ordeal. I respect her will power to help support him in this difficult time.

I would also like to say Thank You to Bill Matteoli. Four of the athletes recognized played for him their 7th and 8th grade years on the Boone County PeeWee football Bandits team. You did an excellent job preparing them for their high school careers. Also to Chuck Hendricks who was the first coach for two of the players.
