Officiating Trend

Featured Replies

Last night there were 51 fouls called at the Boone - Holmes game. They did not call the forearm shove at all nor the walks. There obvious fouls but a majority were hand checking and lite reaching. They would let muggings happen and call a hand check a second later. Added a lot of time to the length of the game

Everyone should get trophies, and equal playing time,. Also scores shouldn't be kept that way there is no winner or loser.

I guess I missed something here. This makes no sense whatsoever. Please explain the revelance to the thread topic.

If this is the trend, who is setting the trend? The state ? What is the rationale? I get games get rough and we don't want kids hurt but why focus on hand checks and forearms in particular? It just simply slows the game down while not really stopping roughness.

Sounds like 50 plus trips to free throw line in at least two games last night, what an exciting game!

Emphasis from KHSAA to officials....also being enforced at the NCAA level.

The Campbell County-Trimble County game officiating was consistent with 8th region officiating last year. They called two hands but not the touchy stuff.

Good for them. I think some regions are going overboard with the interpretation.

Get used to it and don't blame the refs. They are just doing what they have been directed to do!

Love the Farah photo. Very fine indeed.

I think the game had gotten too rough, especially the girls games. I know it is tough right now but I hope things will adjust out and coaches, players and refs can all adjust and officiating will not dominate the game for long. The hardest part will probably be consistency from night to night.

I watched a girls game on Tuesday in which the officials set the tone early in accordance with the new emphasis on the hands, etc....BUT, I watched a boys game last night in which that stuff didn't really stand out the way it did in the girls game.

If you want to play like years before then the rules need to be changed. The way the game is being called now is what the rules are.

Do you think the governing body should adjust how they call a situation when the offensive player initiates the contact. Most of the time a foul is called on the defensive player.

STOP FOULING! The kids and coaching need to adjust not the refs.

The officiating is simply out of control. If it is NCAA that high school officials are attempting to replicate, then do so. However, the average NCAA basketball game consists of 40 fouls in 40 minutes. The #1 ranked team in personal fouls per game (PFPG) averages 13 fouls per game while the #300 ranked team averages 22 fouls per game. Even the high side is manageable for a fan to watch but nearly 2 fouls per minute is simply overkill on the whistle. So far this season, most varsity games have averaged approximately 50 fouls in 32 minutes, nearly double of the NCAA which they are attempting to replicate. I hope at some point common sense will rise to the top and we can get back to watching basketball.

Yea, it got so bad with calling the little hand check fouls that both teams were in the bonus and the sccore was only 3-1

that is ridiculous.
