Honestly the decline of the area began when Ashland Oil moved their headquarters from Ashland to Lexington. Ashland Oil lobbied for years for Boyd and Greenup County to become "wet" counties. When they finally gave up and moved, that coupled with the railroad decline was just too much for the area to handle. I feel sorry for the youth of that area, you almost have to leave the area to get a good job.

Considering the fact that my company has a store there that is #1 in the KY/TN region for alcohol sales I have little trouble believing that. Visited it the other day, definitely not what I was expecting.

Is that per capita or total sales? I'd have a hard time believing it would be total sales and like you would not have expected that.

Total sales in alcohol. Our stores in TN aren't allowed to sell alcohol so there is that too.

I'm really not a huge fan of the place though. Actually, I kind of take a stand against any business that promotes line dancing while I'm eating.
