I had similar symptoms about 15 years ago....was intercostal chondritis. Fits the chest part anyway. I urge you to go to the MD though. Long term back pain can be something more serious.

Costochondritis - MayoClinic.com

This sounds like what I had/have.

Several years ago when I would get out of bed (back then I slept on my stomach), when I would push myself up (similar to a push up), about once a week I would get a sharp, stinging pain right in the middle of my chest. I went to my general practicioner and he listened to my heart and said it sounds fine and since I did not have other signs of heart issues (pain shooting down my arm, etc.) he felt that it was not heart related. His explained that there are several layers of lining in our chest and in between each layer there is mucus which acts as lubrication so when the layers rub against each other, their is not pain. His thery is that for some reason, at some times my chest is not creating a sufficient amount of mucus and this will not cause any long term problems, just some short burst of pain which if they become too much to bear, possibly can be treated. Regardless he wanted me to see a cardiologist just in case. AFter whatever you call the test on the treadmill (EKG????) and some other tests, the cardiologist said almost the exact same thing without me even mentioning what my primary care doctor said. I still get the pains here and there but they are not frequent enough nor does the pain last long enough to justify going back to the doctor to try to get treatment for.

Hopefully this is what you have and if I am not mistaken, I was about your age when this happened to me so, Duece, maybe you are just getting old, sorry.

Chest pain and nausea should never be ignored. I would not wait to call my doctor. Do it today.

I agree. It's especially important if it's a pressure or crushing type pain. Better to feel silly at the hospital or doctor than to make a terrible mistake by ignoring it too long. Has there been any shortness of breath or does the pain come on when you are more active?

This sounds exactly like what is going on with me.

No sir, no shortness of breath or pain when I'm active. No pressure feelings either. I can play basketball for hours, and outside of the usual being out of shape, I don't feel any discomfort.

Just got in from the Doctor...

Good news. He diagnosed me with Costochondritis. I explained everything that was going on, and he said from my descriptions, it didn't sound like heart pain. They took all my vitals, and he looked and my blood work from the summer. Also did an EKG, which he said looked great. Prescribed me an anti-inflammatory medicine to take, and just told me to take it easy if I felt the pain.

Just wanted to say I appreciate all the concern from my fellow BGPer's. You guys and gals are awesome, glad to have "family" like that. :thumb:

My friend Gary Google tells me that Costochondritis is inflammation of a rib or the cartilage connecting a rib.

Glad that it's nothing worse than that, Deuce. You might follow a stupid college sports team, but you're my pal anyway & I've been praying a lot for you. :thumb:

Thanks a lot Randy, I really appreciate it.

And even though you think my team is stupid, I'll still let you come to my birthday party. :jump:

So glad it is nothing serious. Did you see the little UK angel I sent to watch over you?.....:lol2:
