While computers may give some insight, they don't tell anything close to half of a story let alone the full one. People, you included, keep using cal preps as the ultimate barometer which is pointless because at the end of the day it's all played on the field.

If the purpose of the thread is to try and compare Ohio and Kentucky football, here is my take. In the lower classes, Kentucky football is just as good if not better than Ohio. In the upper classes, Ohio is better by a lot.

 

I guessed that out of the top 50 in the two states, Ohio would have 40. Then I went on calpreps.com and went through their top 500 in the nation to look for Ohio and Kentucky schools. There are 41 schools from OH and KY in the top 500 in the nation. Of those 41, 33 of them are Ohio schools. Here is some added perspective, Scott Co. is #1 in 6A on BGP. There are 23 schools in Ohio better than Scott Co. based on the calpreps ranking. There are 18 schools ranked higher than Highlands.

 

I would tend to agree with you, although I came about it in a different way. Assuming that the bell curve for quality football is pretty much the same in both states, Ohio ends up with more "better" teams just because of the larger number of teams that they begin with. I mean, we're looking at what, 3 to 4 times more teams in Ohio than here in Kentucky? So if you take the top 5% of Kentucky's teams, you end up with around 10 teams. With Ohio, you'd end up with around 35. Which is why it sometimes seems there's just as many "great" teams in just the Cincinnati area, compared to the whole state of Kentucky.

 

But, when you compare the top 10 of Kentucky to the top 10 of Ohio...you're really getting Ohio's "best of the best"...which gives them the advantage most of the time.
