October 31, 201312 yr Why does each sports coaches dress so different. Why does basketball go suit and tie and football goes hats and polo shirts. Granted some football coaches do dress up with a tie and jacket while some basketball coaches go more casual at times, but majority dont. Any reason why?
October 31, 201312 yr I'd say it has to do with basketball being inside and climate controlled while football being outside in the weather; heat of August / September, cold of October / November, rain, snow, and the such.
October 31, 201312 yr I would imagine history plays a big role in dress for coaches, although I'm seeing more and more basketball coaches go with polos and khakis instead of the suit. Football coaching attire is probably affected by weather more than anything else.

October 31, 201312 yr Aren't NFL coaches now mandated to wear team apparel that's for sale in the team store? You know what I always liked? When you see those old videos of when Hank Stram was coaching the KC Chiefs and he was wearing the sportcoat with the Chiefs logo over the pocket. For some reason, I love logo sportcoats. ABC Sports should go back to the gold jackets with the network logo.

When I coached baseball I would think, almost daily, how I wish I could have on a pair of khaki pants and a golf shirt with our team logo on the breast. Instead I looked like a buffoon in a jersey!
October 31, 201312 yr Ever been to a volleyball match???? There is ZERO "method to the madness (dress)". Jeans, sweat pants, suit and tie, etc.......Many times not even wearing team apparel. At times they look like someone who just stroled out of a neighborhood soup kitchen.

And I am one of those coaches, you can catch me in polo and slacks or shorts and t shirt, all depends on the day.
