October 25, 201312 yr After watching HBO's Real Sports I think I had the potential to be a professional video gamer.
October 25, 201312 yr You laugh, I was at a bar that had a monthly cash prize pitcher pounding contest. The cash prize was enough that contestants would drive in from out of town. If you win enough I guess you could be a semi-professional beer drinker? The event was usually held outside since there were always a few amatuers who would pound the pitcher, release a loud belch and then bring the pitcher of beer back up. Where is this bar? I have a unique skill set.
October 25, 201312 yr After losing a perfect game against WV my Sr. year with two out in the 4th, on fly ball that the rightfielder and centerfielder let fall inches between them, my career went "south" in a heartbeat. :lol2: But like mcpapa said......NO!!
October 25, 201312 yr Too many injuries and my drinking habits keep me from being a responsible athlete. On second thought there are alot of irresponsible pro athletes so I might still have a shot.
October 25, 201312 yr When I was in my prime, I think I could have given the professional corn hole players a run for their money. Won four Northern Kentucky University Championships in a row haha! As well as several cash tournaments throughout college.
October 25, 201312 yr After watching HBO's Real Sports I think I had the potential to be a professional video gamer. I was friends with one of them in college. Those who used to play Halo quite a bit might know of him as Elamite Warrior. He would go out of town on weekends and come home after making upwards of 10,000. He also had "training sessions" where people would pay him to teach them how to up their game. He was ridiculously good.
October 25, 201312 yr The chances of anyone possessing the correct skill set, physical traits, or abilities to play professionally at a sport is so incredibly rare I think people take it for granted. The chances anyone on BGP having that set is rare. I once read there about 18,000 professional athletes in the United States. I am sure a big chunk of those are obscure sports we are not even considering for this thread and it includes females. But let us just say for argument's sake the number is 18,000 male athletes in just the major sports we generally think about, that is 1 out of every 16,667 people being a pro athlete. The community I am from is close to that size in population. Ironically we have 1 person that is presently playing in the NFL. Another not far off in age that played a handful of games in the NFL. That is all I am aware of.

There have been a few that played minor league ball and none that I know of that played in the NBA.

I consider myself to me a solid distance runner. My PR in the 26.2 distance is 3:36:10 a couple years ago but I will admit I have never over-pounded my legs to the tune of running 50+ miles a week. However, with that time it puts me in to a strong percentile (80 percentile). Even if I fully committed to it, it would be a battle to ever break 3 hours. Then you see the elite runners that show up for these things and clip off 2:30 marathons or better. The difference between the really strong and the elites (professionals) is a wide margin.

Totally agree. Pro would be EXTREMELY hard. Though being able to focus solely on tri would help a lot.
