I find myself continuing to come back to Mason County. I'm not labeling them the favorite, but they have less to replace than any of the other top 5-6 teams.

If the regional tournament were today, I'd pick Mason County to win, based on exactly what RP said above. When March rolls around...who knows what we'll see! I just know I'm happy to see practices starting.

When Mason's guards played well last season, the Royals were tough to beat. But from an outsider's perspective, they seemed inconsistent. The District Tournament game against Augusta was a tough one for the Royals' back court.

 

That's also why Augusta could be scary. Their weakness is the exact opposite of Mason County. The Panthers' front line is thin, but their guard play is outstanding. It's why they had a successful postseason in 2012-13.

Thought Henry looked very impressive over the summer.

I think we may have to start considering Scott FRESHMAN Jake Ohmer as one of the best in the region. This week in the Lloyd Memorial Tournamet, in 4 games he totaled 95 points.

^ Agreed. I'll add Mason County soph guard Williams to the "surprise" category. Has exhibited solid floor leadership so far this season at a position where the Royals were very inconsistent last year.

Agree. Also want to add King of GRC to the "surprise" list. Kid has really stepped up his game from last year. Another to watch for is Freshman Jerryd Jones. He is now starting for GRC. Going to be a very good player.

I was glad goldie mentioned Jones from GRC as another freshman who has been playing well. I would add Bracken County's Austin Crawford, who is averaging over 20 ppg. for the season as a freshman.

 

I'll also say that I don't believe any of the three young men are top ten talents in the Region quite yet. Just looking at the top two teams in the 10th (MoCo & Brossart) you will find five players who would be ranked higher (Wallace, Jones, & Cisero of MoCo...Trentman & Burns from Brossart). That's just five players on two teams.
