Pretty solid predictions for the 10th. A few things I disagree with though. For me I don't see how Augusta can be 5th when they won the 39th last year and only really lost one piece. (I do understand how Mason County can reload in a blink of an eye though) but still, until MC beats Augusta, in my eyes Augusta should be above them. You also have to think those freshman for Augusta last year who are now Sophomores are only improving.

 

My top 5 team rankings would go:

1. Montgomery County

2. Bishop Brossart

3. Augusta

4. Campbell County

5. Mason County

 

The player rankings are pretty solid. I think 2-5 are interchangeable and Bach is clearly the best player in the region. I can't wait to watch the young man play this year!

Preview also mentions the transfer of junior guard Landon Sexton away from Nicholas County. He was their leading scorer last year. I had not heard that.

 

Our friend Devilman will be happy to know that TCP ranks Robertson County as the #2 team in the 38th District.

 

The battle for the #2 spot in the 38th will be heated. Very even between the 3 schools.

 

I don't believe it will be as close as many think. Harrison clearly is the favorite, then probably Robertson County.

 

Pendleton lost six contributing seniors last year and those six got most of the PT. A few kids got some time last year but not many, little varsity experience for the Wildcats this year.

 

With Sexton transferring/moving and NC losing many Seniors also I can't see them competing for that second spot either. But come tourney time anything can happen!

MoCo is supposed to have a transfer in from Chicago. Heard he was very athletic. Will see when season starts if he fits into the top 10 in the region.

1) Jake O'Mara was injured for a significant portion of the 2012-13 season. At the time of his injury, I believe he was 2nd on the team in both scoring & rebounding. His return will be a boost to Coach O'Hearn's squad.

 

2) Augusta returns a great deal, but the major loss is Tanner Kelsch whose contributions were often overshadowed by Bach's presence. While Brent certainly earns his accolades, Kelsch brought a lot to the table. In addition to being the team's #2 scorer, Tanner was a relentless rebounder, defender, & possessed a lot qualities not measured by a stat sheet. My good friend Jason Hinson will have a hard time finding someone to fill Kelsch's sneakers.

 

Having said that, Mason County will have to see improvement from its back court if the team wants to be a Region contender. Like Augusta, they have some quality young talent to compliment their senior stars. The Augusta youngsters have proven capable, so the onus is on the Royals underclassmen to do the same.

As long as the KHSAA allows for out of state transfers to play for MoCo, they will be tough to beat.

I meant to put something in my post about Tanner. Everything you said is spot on. He exemplifies everything you want a player to be on and off thr court. Exceptional young man.

Agreed on the Augusta fans. They were incredible last season.

The top four teams seem solid to me. I think with the top three teams, you could make a strong case for any of them to be #1.

 

My player rankings would be different, though I don't think this is at all a bad list. I think Bach is clearly #1 & then I'd rank Shawn Johnson & Alex Trentman at 2 & 3, in some order. Those two are neck and neck IMO. Johnson is a better post player, while Trentman is more versatile. You can't go wrong either way you rank those guys.

 

A lot of these guys played in the shadow of a bigger star last season. All the Montgomery guys played in Omar's shadow, Trentman & Burns in Justin Saunders' shadow, & to a much lesser extent Holbrook played in McGovney's shadow. Maybe part of the reason Corey is ranked at #2 is because we've seen him perform really well as the lead dog, while some of the others were always playing a more secondary role.

 

I'd also rank Blanton a little bit higher. Jackson from Campbell County deserves some attention & as gold said, Snoop Johnson needs to be here. Austin Crawford of Bracken County is just a freshman, but I feel like by season's end, he'll be tough to keep off of a top ten list.

 

One other thing...the players ranked are all seniors.

 

Should be more parity in the 10th this season than we've seen in quite some time.

Sad that MOCO will probably win the region because of all the transfers... When will the KHSAA put a stop to this?

 

They will let the schools decide on post-game hand shakes but won't do anything about out of state transfers. SMH. This just gets to me.
