Walter Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Raiders travel to Park Hills Sat. Who wins and why? Can Ryle's ball control offense keep the Colonels O off the field long enough to keep this a competitive game? Or will Covcath roll?
MentschTrachtGottLacht Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 ..... I like it better when the polls are public. Ryle voter, help me out with why this game is even going to be close? I think CovCath handles the Raiders with ease on Saturday.
Bluedad Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Raiders travel to Park Hills Sat. Who wins and why? Can Ryle's ball control offense keep the Colonels O off the field long enough to keep this a competitive game? Or will Covcath roll? First- I do think it will be pretty competitive. Ryle got a confidence boost with a win against Boone despite a lot of turnovers. They are probably telling the kids, "can you imagine what we could do if we DIDN'T turn it over?" The Woolf kid runs hard and they have Hill running out of Jet and Wildcat along with Bateman, England and Meiman in the backfield. Not sure the status of the McGregor kid- didn't see him play against Boone. When Hill is at QB its an automatic run- Rytlewski (sp?) does not give them quite the running threat from the QB spot (at least not designed runs) as they probably want- but he manages the game pretty well. On the other hand, the Cov Cath offense had to feel good coming out of Beechwood. After struggling to put points up in previous games after (due to their run of injuries) they did a pretty nice job of sticking to their game plan and putting up 28 against Beechwood. I still think Sam Dressman will be the best player on the field from either team, though the Ryle D will be bigger and better prepared to stop him than Beechwood. This will not be a shoot out- could end up a 14-7 or 21-14 the game IMO. But I'm going with Cov Cath to pull it out.
Voice of Reason Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I see the key to this game being Ben Dressman. If he continues to improve and plays like he did versus Beechwood, the Colonels will get a comfortable win. If Cov Cath has to rely on the running game to generate all the offense, Ryle should have the size up front to hang in there. Their defense has done a decent job except for the games against the high powered passing teams. Ryle's defense will have to hold CCH to 14 points or less to have a chance to get the win.

Great points Voice, and like you, I don't think CovCath can generate anything on the ground (unless it is a jet sweep to Sam Dressman, or, faking that, Ben keeps it on a counter-action). The WR corps for CovCath, with the exception of the aforementioned #9, need to hang on to the football when young Dressman delivers it. Also like you Voice, I don't think Ryle can generate much / anything on offense, so this will have to be a low-scoring affair to give the Raiders a shot. I don't think it will be close, but if it is, the CovCath shaky (being kind) kicking game better be improved or it could bite them here. That said, I'd say something north of 20 versus something south of 13 is the final.
PigSkin Junkie Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 There is NO WAY Ryle is in this game past half time. How do you gain confidence with a one-score win over a win-less team? Cov Cath beat that same team by 7+ scores. I don't think the Colonels have to be back to full strength to run all over the Raiders this week.
Voice of Reason Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Question on the CCH kicking game - why doesn't Sam Dressman kick the extra points? The kid kicked the ball out of the back of the end zone versus Beechwood. No one has talked about what a huge factor he was in that game on kickoffs. Beechwood has one of the best return games in the area and Dressman kicking into the end zone eliminated that with his kickoffs. He obviously has the leg. Why doesn't he kick the extra points?
Hellbird Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 My prediction? Save your money Ryle fans and stay home and read the updates on here.

He's done it off and on throughout his career. Consistency is an issue. I know- like CCH is consistent now. But I think they have it figured out. With Beechwood, the first two snaps seemed to be bobbled by the holder- not the kickers fault. The next kick and the field goal were clean snaps and holds. Hopefully this is polished up.
cvb Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Are all of the injured players from Cov Cath back for this week's game?
Colonels_Wear_Blue Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Are all of the injured players from Cov Cath back for this week's game? No.
MentschTrachtGottLacht Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 No. CWB, is there any chance Bir or Wagner are back this year? The running game has been especially anemic without Luke, understandably, but they'll need to have balance to advance to a 2nd Highlands game in the post-season. Thanks in advance.
