How long does it take to receive one text and send a reply?

Consider the entire process and think about how much of an interruption to your day would that one transaction take?

Lets say you are working on your car and your phone dings to let you know you have a text. How long does it take from the time you put down the wrench, pick up the phone and read the text, send the reply, and then lay the phone back down and pick back up the wrench to resume your work?

I know some texts are shorter than others and some are longer, but try to just think about averages here.

Thank you for voting in the poll. :thumb:

Going with 1 minute or less for my average. I seldom text in short hand because I think it leads to bad habits.

..............

I have the notification turned off when I get a text or it would literally burn itself out beeping / vibrating all day.

Also, like Bugatti, I only text in complete and grammatically correct sentences.

I text grammatically correct and my average is still easily under a minute.

I return a text as soon as I know I have received one. I do not use text shorthand either. I don't like it when I receive a text and I know the response is going to be long and involved. At that point it is easier to call. I call immediately and do not get an answer. Then I text and get a response right away. I think texting fails when there is a long and involved communication.

Your scenario doesn't ever apply to me. My phone is set on complete silence with NO vibration. So I just check my phone A LOT and respond to all the messages then. My average is easily under 30 seconds. My texts are grammatically correct too. :D

You can adjust it to fit your own style. I think you understand what I was trying to ask.

I do. Just saying that the "time out of my day" factor doesn't really come into play. It's truly just how long it takes me to read, comprehend, type, and hit send. I know a lot of people like that too.

Easily under 30 seconds for most of my texts. Many of them might be closer to 10. Important/serious conversations take more time, of course. It's rare a phone call is useful anymore.

I wish there was another option:

Either within 30 seconds, or I close it and think "I'll answer that in a minute" and never do.

This is probably one of the few places you'll see a group of guys bragging about "less than 30 seconds." :lol2:

If you are only "texting" yourself it doesn't count, :stop:
