Wow, another great game,, cardinals line was awesome tonight!

A tale of 2 halfs.. Mayfield completely dominated the 1st half, going up 21-0 at the break and outgaining Tilghman 248 yds to 27, gaining 15 1st downs to just 1 for Tilghman.

 

Tilghman controlled the 3rd qtr for over 9 minutes in the 3rd qtr, picking up 1 score and then another on the 1st play of the 4th qtr to cut the Card lead to 21-14, holding the Cards to 2 3 and outs in the 3rd qtr.

 

After the PT score to cut the lead to 7, Mayfield answered with an 85 yd scoring drive on it's 1st 4th qtr possession, eating over 5 minutes off the clock.

 

PT wasn't done, however, as they got good field position on the ensuing kickoff, right at midfield and drove it down for a 3rd 2nd half score, cutting the lead to 28-21. However, it took a lot of time off the clock and they had under 2:00 minutes remaining. They tried for the onside kick, but, the Cards recovered and ran the clock out for the final margin.

 

Overall, really good game by 2 very good teams.. Both teams will get a lot out of this game and help prepare them for district play and the playoffs.

Cards need to overcome their wearing out in second half from not having the depth at some positions. But another great win and what. Show of heart tuffness and determination in the 4th Q when things were going badly. 1a look out here we come again

Congratulations to the Cardinals.

They have 2 more tough weeks coming up with Murray and Graves Co next on the schedule. That's a hard 5 week stretch for any team. Hopefully, they can keep everyone healthy. They've got pretty good depth on the line and at WR, but, not much depth at LB, RB and in the secondary. can't afford too many hits in those areas.

Big answer for Mayfield in the 4th after the Tornado cut it to 21 to 14. They had been shut down in the 2nd half until that long drive. Turns out that was the difference.

It's a Great Day to be a Mayfield Cardinal !!!

Tilghman's McRight Field has a listed capacity of 8,500 and she was full up so I am going to guess that the game drew a crowd of a little under 10,000 after looking at the number of people standing around the field sidelines. Not bad for small school football or for the 100TH meeting of Red and Blue. Not the largest crowd I have witnessed for this game but a very large one
