Tim Tebow released by the Patriots

He still plans to be an NFL quarterback.

And I'm planning on winning the lottery...

I really like the guy. I still believe he has the skill/body/intelligence to be an NFL tightend. He's impressive with the ball in his hands, until he has to throw it. I admire his integrity, and his steadfast allegiance to his faith in the face of more scrutiny than anyone I can remember in professional sports in my lifetime has faced.

Considering how short the Pats are at tight end, and they never even considered or tried him there, further enhances my doubts. On the surface, he's too short and not heavy enough, has never had to block a DE or LB, or run a pass route. And being good with the ball in his hands is a lot different from being able to catch a ball. And there's no history of any QB's making this transition in the NFL.

You may be right. But there's never been a quarterback like Tebow, if your premise is true. And there are numerous basketball guys who made the transition without ever knowing the offense. And I doubt NE ever gave him a shot there considering the personnel, Hernandez not included. And he was still in the race for QB on the roster.

Bengals should sign him up asap before someone else does.

He is definitely a good enough athlete but it would take a few years to develop and he is not practice squad eligible, so that makes it a very unlike option. Just not enough spots on the regular roster to devlop players from scratch.

I'll give you Antonio Gates and Jimmy Graham. Tony Gonzalez did play football at at Cal, so I don't count him. Besides those two, who else has done it, let alone have done it well?? And Gates and Graham are much bigger AND faster than Tebow. And no, NE never really gave him a shot, yet they were down there top two tight ends, and currently have an undrafted guy as a starter. Remember, Belichick played Troy Brown at DB in a pinch, you don't think he would have tried Tebow at another position?? And the fact that he didn't play at all in the 3rd preseason game, and that they've only carried two QB's the last few years, I don't think he was ever really in the QB race at all. Finally, there have been plenty of QB's like Tebow.....great athletes, good dudes, guys who could run, but just did not throw the ball well enough to play the position in the NFL. Matt Jones (and yes I know he had a drug problem) was very similar to Tebow...except much taller, bigger and a lot faster.

Who's "a lot faster"? Gates? Come on, I understand your disagreement, but Tebow is 6'3", 245, runs 4.72. The 245 might be his only issue.

Heath Miller in comparison, 6'5", 256, 4.79. Heath Miller is in the upper tier as a run blocker yet only outweighs him 11 lbs. Tebow is faster.

Yet you act like he's not even in the ballpark. We will continue to disagree.

And Matt Jones was taller and faster, weighed 236 at the combine, weighed 222 in year 2008 in the league.. Not exactly built for blocking. What else you got?

After seeing how this all went down, I really wonder if BB brought in Tebow to light a fire under Mallet.

The Jones comparison, was based on similar athleticism, as a guy who everyone thought had to be able to make it at another position, and ultimately didn't. Maybe not a fair comparison, as he was moved to wideout, not TE. It's not easy to change positions. It's been done, but not very often, and when QB's have switched, none have ever moved to TE.

There are always outliers. Heath Miller doesn't belong in the argument, because he IS a tight end, not a former quarterback. Physically, yes, TE is probably the best position for Tebow, if he were forced to switch. But he's not the prototypical size and speed of what the position is turning into, and there is no history of this type of move ever being successful. Plenty of college QB's have switched positions with success. But they have mostly become wide outs (a few have moved to RB).

I think that in the event of a position switch, H-Back would be a better option than TE.
